OK, I know now may or may not be the time to jump in, but where can I go to buy stocks? Sounds dumb but I looked at Etrades and it looks like they may go belly up too. Is there a small fee site or what? Thanks.

What's the one with the talking baby and the Blackberry? If that little infant can hook it up, I'm sure you can.

Since you're in the UP, how far are you from Watersmeet?

In times like these you can probably just put and ad up on craigslist "WTB: Stocks, fast payment, no fantasy prices!" and then sit down and choose from the huge variety you will be offered...

MJ-Watersmeet is just under 100 miles from me.

Thanks for the replies. Stumbo, do you use Schwab and if so, any problems with them>?

The economy is too shakey for me. The Dow lost 30% in
the last three months.
Put your money in an ING Direct savings account.
2.75% might not sound like a whole lot but its
positive and its FDIC insured.

That just means stocks are 30% cheaper than they were 3 months ago. good time to buy if you ask me.

Unless the stocks you buy happen to drop that remaining 70% or if the company suddenly files for bankruptcy. Any meaningful amout of money would have been thrown down the drain.

i've been using TDAMERITRADE for the past 8 years. zero problems, and they also have brick and morter store fronts if you feel like you need to talk to a human face to face. their phone customer service is reliable and well built.

These days, I'm playing it safe and putting my money in tin cans and burying them in the back yard.

That saying goes for stocks as well, IMHO.

If this is not a joke..

I think right now would be the best time to buy stocks as long as you don't need the money. The stock market is a solid investment over a long period of time.

The markets always go up and down, right now you can buy stock in some big companies for under a buck a share and there is a good chance that after the market settles and begins to grow again you will be able to turn it into some big bucks. (assuming you don't wear tinfoil hats)

I did this after 9/11 and I made some serious cash.

Buy Walgreens, a great company that is at a huge low and does not operate under a huge amount of credit.
