Did anyone else in South Jersey see the sky last night?
I'm in Glassboro and around ten last night we saw the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.
In the northern sky there was an east-west band of those high atmospheric clouds (cirrus?). Near these clouds was a series of vertical lines which appeared to be illuminated. There were at least 20 lines from east to west, and while the clouds were drifting in the breeze as clouds do, these lines remained perfectly stationary and straight. The lines continued above and below the clouds, and were obviously not part of the cloud structure.
One line in particular was very bright and looked like it went much higher than the others.
The rest of the sky was very clear except for this band of clouds. Slowly the lines faded and after about an hour they were gone.
Eight of my friends saw the same thing.
What did we see???

And I don't think it was aliens haha.
My thoughts are that it was an electrical occurence in the upper atmosphere. I would love to see a picture of something similar.

Grand openings? circus? car dealership?
if not, it was probably aliens |

If I had to take a guess, the lines were spread over about twenty miles in a line beginning somewhere near the Delaware River and going east from there, irregularly spaced. I mean if it was just one I could understand if it was a car dealership or club or something, but some of these were coming from farm country...
And for the video link, it wasn't anything like that.

Sometimes the effects can be circular and other times appear as straight lines. It sounds like what you and your friends saw are light pillars caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere.
Here's a few examples, but they can have widely differing appearances.

And no, we weren't partying yet haha.
