Strategies that you use to stay positive.

Sign in to disble this ad
In the past couple weeks a few things have been happening in my life, and lately I've realized my biggest issue that I feel I have is finding ways to stay away from focusing on the problems in life (negativity), and find positivity (or solutions). I've kind of been going down this path for at least a few years, and despite what I do or accomplish I'm always cutting myself short on credit.

What do you guys do to stay positive?

Just remember that at the end of the day it doesnt matter what others think... it matters what you think.
I know what you mean as ive been in the same boat recently with losing my job and all. Dont confuse your situation with you as a person.... Im not unemployed because I suck or because I couldnt cut it... im unemployed because I had a Bipolar boss with something to prove.... its the situation that sucks... not me. Just remember that about yourself when times get rough.

As I like to tell young children, always remember: The world was put here for your amusement.

Drop all the toxic people in your circle and don't get stuck in a moment you can't get out of, what you see everyday is a frame, a snapshot, things change all the time.

I read texts from last night and fml to feel better about a rough day. On rougher patches I try to look at things by how important they will be 5 or 10 years from now. I also keep my expectations pretty low so that every time something fantastic happens, I'm pleasantly surprised.

I have achieved either absolute Nirvana or absolute Apathy. Not sure which, but I don't care, it is what it is.

I think one of the best ways to get positive is to get off the internet, stop watching television, turn off your cell phone for a few hours, and just go out with your friends and have fun. I really believe that things like Facebook and constant interaction with news media is playing a role in 'depressing' a lot of people, since the majority of their focus in life is no longer on tangible objects and relationships. I find that after going out into the real world and interacting with people for a few hours I usually feel much better and much more positive.

I like to not knock myself for anything. I look at it this way: The world is full of people trying to bring you down. Why help them?

That's not to say that I never accept blame or responsibility - I just recognize that whatever crappy decisions I made, seemed like the best option at the time for whatever reason or combination of reasons, and I'll do better next time.

It's mainly knowing that I do my best, and I shouldn't feel bad about what is out of my influence.

I give away electrons whenever I can - helps me stay positive.

OK, seriously? I exercise regularly, preferably outdoors. A good hard bike ride on a nice sunny day does wonders for my attitude. As someone else said, I try to turn off the TV. So much advertising on TV is based on the message that you are not OK the way you are - you are not attractive enough, popular enough, sexy enough, successful enough, etc. I meditate. And I try to remember that a living, conscious human being is a miraculous thing.

I also try to remember that having running water and electricity in my home makes me wealthier than about 2/3rds of the world's poulation.

This is so true. We have no grand purpose being here but to live our lives and fill our roles. Why not be as happy about that as one can be?

Nothing really matters in life. All the struggles, all the strife, its just a bunch of crap with no purpose but to deter us from our courses of happiness. Dont let it get you down.

I find that the world is actually quite the fair place, though plenty may disagree. We live in a world constructed by the concept of balance, and how the scale tips one way or the other we have minimal control over. Without sadness, anguish, and other negatives we'd have no balance to know what true happiness is.

Sometimes the **** hits the fan and all we can do is duck for cover, but you know what, the **** doesnt fling forever. Soon enough its got to run out. Sometimes the hammer falls pretty hard, and it seems like the ****storm never ceases. Just wait, one day you'll notice the clouds have dispersed and all will be right again.

All you can do is keep piling on the positive side of the scale, so that when things go bad, youve got a lot of good to look back on and realize that **** isnt always so bad.

Considering that I have lived a lifetime already in my 31 years, the truth is LIFE HAPPENS. Focus on the things that you can control. Your diet and drug/alcohol intake for one. The people you surround yourself with. But most of it is out of our control. Remind yourself that you are a 100% product of your genetics/heritage. So if you wish you were tan but were born in Sweden, get over it, its not going to happen.

I usually get depressed when I start to focus to much on one thing.

Now most of that is to just get through life, but to be a positive person is another task. Being a positive person means playing the lottery knowing you are going to lose but just being happy to have the shot. Being positive means doing what you do no matter the weather, if your tired, and just doing something when you don't want to. Being a positive person even can mean not letting negativity effect your mood.

Hopefully this helps

Id say more like 70% genetics and 30% enviroment. Let us not forget the good ole nature vs. nurture debate.
