Stuck door on van...help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Long story sort my girlfriend's van, 2006 Chevy Uplander, has a stuck sliding passenger door on the driver's side. A passenger tried to unlock the door at the same time someone pulled the handle. Now the door is permanently locked shut.

The problem is that in order to get at the lock mechanism you have to open the door. The windows are surface mounted hinged so I can's slide a flat jack inside the window slot and release the door.

What can I do now?

Thanks!

i'd probably call a dealer/mechanic first....maybe they'll tell you,maybe there's a service bulletin on the problem...

So unlocking the door at the same time someone tries to open it results in permalock? When that happens I just have to unlock the door a second time. Have you tried kicking it?

Nothing to add to the thread but this reminded me of a funny story.

My boss has a Toyota Sienna with auto doors and one got stuck in the open position. His wife had to drive their kids around with an open door in the winter just to get home.

Then it was time to take it to the dealer which is in the other end of town. Gas was low and the gas door is, you guessed it, behind the open sliding door that is stuck. Boss ran out of gas on the way to the dealer and had to get it towed in.

a lot of doors require special tools to get at and to get those clips back in

I always got my interior panels off with a flathead screwdriver. They pry off, and pop back in. I had the rear passenger window motor bust on one of my old cars. Popped off the panel and used a sliding window lock (made for home windows, sold through my work) to lock the window in the closed position.

Reminds me of that joke ... I locked the keys in the van and it took two hours to get the drummer out

One side door on my Toyota Sienna got stuck in a halfway-shut mode. I ended up removing the inner trim panel, figuring out how the mechanism worked, and fixing it.
