Student suspended from school over hateful MySpace page

I graduated from this high school in the 90's.

News at Noon: Court backs Musselman High School in online bullying case - journal-news.net | News, sports, jobs, community information for Martinsburg - The Journal

I applaud the decision, actually. These types of things are uncalled for. I am glad they didn't try and blame the parent and made the kid liable for the issue.

Along with being suspended, Kowalski was prevented from crowning her successor as "Queen of Charm" in the school's annual Charm Review and was kicked off the cheerleading squad.
A lot of "charm" she seems to show...

Haha, that's exactly what I thought when I read the title to this thread. I was wondering if it was a necro from four years ago or something.

Glad to see this. Far too much of this online bullying, and so far, they have been able to get away with it. There needs to be real consequences for this kind of online behavior, these bullies do it because they think they can get away with it.

I'm a high school assistant principal, and we suspended a student and worked with the police who charged that student with felony menacing for a facebook page they created with an accompanying youtube video of another student getting beaten up. We had two fights at school that stemmed from this harassment.

Kids need to know that they are not invisible online, and that what they say sticks to them.

If you guys read the first two paragraphs of the story, you'll see the incident took place in 2005.

Speaking of which, she's 23 or 24 now and she's still pursuing this? Does she realize bringing this up again now makes her look like an idiot?

Awww, poor baby. Wonder if she's ever considered how the target of her bullying felt.

Now I might be going out on a limb here but my instinct is telling me that isn't one of her concerns...

My my my...how times change.

When I was in high school, our teachers encouraged us to out the "sluts" and "queers". For our protection of course.

They also supported an organized prayer group which blocked the school entrance every morning before class where they pushed down and spit on kids who failed to stop and join them.

AMEN accountability is the best way to deal with this kind of poor behavior.

Well i remember when you said " ewww so in so has cooties"

that was kindergarten, i guess it was unpleasant for someone, but its just a childhood thing.

So it makes sense that during puberty, the immature name calling turns into " Ewww so in so has Herpes"

So it makes sense in the social networking era, it had to move up on more step.

Still the same thing but instead its on a public website with pictures.

Now when you make fun of little crybaby kids, they get clinically depressed, and a bunch of ****** "doctors" support that...and load em up on meds...to "fix" it...and then you get sued by some lawyer or get suspended by school.

Basically it does come back to the parents....1 they were morons to start with, and 2 they are too busy being morons, so their moron kids become bigger morons, with communication skills that extent to text messages or network comments

whatever im not going to attack any certain group..im just going to say ewwwww the whole world has cooties

The problem is that kids no that cooties don't exist and even if kids did, that rumor doesn't follow them around for years.

Just curious, but does/did the girl actually have herpies? You could of considered it an 'awareness page' for any and all guys who were thinking of tapping that

In my day we were that courteous. Though sadly we still had a few students who wouldn't listen to warning, make out with Christine the Cootie Collector and then be out sick from school for 3 days.

Shame.

If she didn't do any of this at school I don't think the school has the right to get involved. The police on the other hand...

Freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom from the consequences of that speech.

People forget that.

+1

She got kicked out of school for five days. Big whoop-dee-doo. Unless her permanent transcript is keeping her out of college or from landing a job, I don't understand the need to pursue this.
