1. Reading Terminal - any type of food you'd like. I'd recommend getting an Italian Roast Pork (loaded) sandwich near the center - greens, sharp provolone, & pork on a hard roll.
2. Penn's Landing - a nice area to walk around, tour some historic ships. Perhaps see some fireworks, depending on when you're here.
3. Historic district - Independence Hall & Betsy Ross House, Constitution Center. All in the neighborhood of 6th & Chestnut.
4. You can take a quick trip over to NJ, where at the Camden Waterfront (don't worry, it's separated from the rest of Camden) there is a minor leagur baseball team (Camden Riversharks), an aquarium (pretty decent), BB62 - USS New Jersey for tours, and a nice little outdoor park for live music.
5. Italian market in South Philly (pronounced "Sowfilly"). Decent Italian food & a street market for fresh meats, vegetables, pasta. The spice store down there is really good.
6. Art Museum (free on Sundays)
7. Bass Specialties, a bass-centered store in Ben Salem, a suburb of Philadelphia (north of the city). It is about a 20-25 minute drive on I95 from Center City, and is located on Street Road (there is a dedicated exit). www.bassspecialties.com
8. Take a couple of hours & visit ATLANTIC CITY, NJ. It is only about an hour from Center City, Philadelphia.
9. Historical park: Valley Forge (where Washington's army spent a Winter);
10. For really good pizza, there's also "Marra's" in South Philly.
Hope this helps!

Stay wayaway from South St. after about 9PM, unless you have a bigger gun than they do. Stay even further away from ATMs on, or anywhere near South St..
Hange ye instead, in Olde City. You'll live longer.
Check out 'The Khyber Pass Pub' (live music, Schecter endorsed 'Rock Stars', Ooooh!) Also, Dicken's Inn, 2nd and Lombard (Head House Square). Owned and operated by a great grandson of Charles himself. Very British. Fish and Chips, Kidney Pie (THEE most disgusting thing man has ever eaten), Shepard's Pie, other gastronomic masterpieces, darts, and a vast draft beer selection.
"If you're walking on Broad st. and the numbers of the side streets are getting smaller, turn right around."
Broad is actually 14th St. Numbers run east and west. Broad runs north and south, like the numbered streets. Try to stay no further north than Arch St. (Reading Terminal, China Town), and no further west than the train staion (30th St.).
Philadelphia is a beautiful (well, a lot of it anyway), historically rich city. Lots of really good restaurants too. Just be careful.
And definately run up those steps at the Art Museum.
'YO ADRIAN!!!!
PS- The best cheese-steaks are in the burbs. Forget Pat's, IMO. Pat's is for tourists, like Oprah The meat is sliced way too thick, and they insist on using that damned 'Cheese Whiz'.

One of the more pleasant entertainment areas in the city is the Manayunk district and it adjacent sections. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
