Suddenly moving to a new town?

Has anybody just quit their job, packed up and moved to a new town with no real plan or anything? How does one do it?

well i haven't done it a whole lot but i find the easiest way to do it is to quit your job pack up and move to a new town. the great part about it is you don't need a real plan...

You quit your job, pack up, and move to a new town.

One gives his employer and bands as much notice as possible, sets a date and goes. (see "location", google)

Helps to have shelter lined up. Go from there

I thought about it, but had difficulty letting go of the life here. In the end, I stayed put.

I've wanted to a few times, but its hard in my area. It isn't really that developed yet as far as business goes so jobs would be hard to find and the same with living. Houses are either super expensive or already occupied.

I would probably end up living under the overhang outside of walmart for a couple weeks with all of my belongings on the sidewalk.

I recently moved to a new town but that was only because it was the only place I could get work in my field. I haven't quite chucked everything in and just moved, but this was pretty close. I got the job first knowing that I could afford to move elsewhere, then once I got the job I looked for a place close to where I would be working. Found a place at the right price and everything is working out OK.
I'd recommend at least see if there is work for you in your new town and secure a job first, then ther rest is easy. Particularly if you are looking at renting a place as most landlords won't accept your application unless you can at least show you are employed.

I could probably live on my savings frugally for a year without a new job, of course I don't want to deplete my savings, but I'm so sick of Houston, and there's not that many opportunities in my field in other cities (specifically Austin, which is where I want to go). Of course, i don't give a **** about my field, but my marketable skills are few and I could never make early as much money in something else. I wish I could just psyche myself up and convince myself that money doesn't matter. My job is really the only thing keeping me here...

It's always best to have atleast 2-3 grand saved for moving and to live off of for a month or two...if you can't get a new job in a month, you've moved to the wrong place. Def. don't use your savings just to live off of for a year, that's crazy...

Check on-line for job/apartment openings for the new place you want to move...go there for a weekend and see if you really like the place...make sure they have good bars, restaurants, and music stores...

It doesn't have to be spontaneous. You can look for new jobs in other cities while working at your current job. Once the opportunity arrives, you can blow town.

Depending on your field/career, you might even get moving expenses paid for by your new employer.

David Bowie did it and released the greatest records he's ever made (in my opinion of course).

So do it while listening to a lot of David Bowie.

well you basically need enough savings for a few months rent....and then you need to find a job in the new town before the savings run out :-)

this is great motivation for finding a job..

if you have no savings you need a really good friend...

My brother set a date, found a couch to crash on and left. He went from College Station to Dallas. After a month long stint with a temp agency, he landed his career through said agency. End of story.

houston does kinda suck.....i was born and raised there....well it's actually a really great city...it just doesn't suite me..

where do you want to move?

like someone said above you can look for a job in other areas while you work in houston...

if you are worried about procrastinating.....just pick a date and go....set aside a few grand in savings...find an apt...and find a job before it runs out...
