So i'm flying back to Florida to my brothers house who is moving out to california. We're going to be driving back in mid July.
What are the must see spots along the way? I want to stop in Nashville, New Orleans and Austin for sure. We are going to meet some family in Atlanta to go to that new aquarium. But other than that, we're trying to decide where else to stop.
Are there any places in Nashville that you guys recommend that we stay or eat or go to?? Or just the really cool places. What about in Austin? And New Orleans?
Im really excited for this trip. This will be my first time going back east and to the south, so it should be a lot of fun.
Thanks so much for your guys input!
Jimmy

There are other TB'rs that live there that know more than I do. I've never been. It's been one of my life's goals to hit Jazz fest. The year that my wife and I planned to go, we got pregnant. We haven't been able to reschedule it. Gard is the first person I would talk to about New Orleans. Mike_v_s is another guy around there. |

I'd recommend hitting up Benjamin Strange, he's a resident now. There are a few others there as well.
Where in FL are you starting out? If you haven't been to Bass Central in Orlando, that would definitely be a stop to make...

It's an ok town. There are some really good local bands there. Especially if you're into metal. Good metal scene (believe it or not). But there is more than just metal in Nashville. Take a walk down 2nd Ave and you'll hear lots of good sounds. Another fun thing to do in Nashville is check out the Nashville Roller Girls. I used to date one of them and I always had fun checking out their events.
I know nothing about NOLA or Austin. But I've been to Dallas several times and I've never had a bad time there. I've always heard that Austin is awesome. Also if you're into really awesome sea food, while you're in Louisiana, look for a resteraunt called "Frank & Jannie's." I don't know if they have a location in NOLA. But they have a few locations up north. Some of the best seafood I've ever had.
Atlanta has a section called Buckhead that's pretty fun for clubs and bars and stuff. When I was stationed at Ft. Benning, my friends and I always used to go up there on weekends and hit the bars. It's pretty cool.
If you're into tattoos at all, check out "All or Nothing." The owner, Brandon Bond, is probably one of the best artists in the nation. The entire staff is awesome...again, if you're into tattoos. I got my first one there and they all do great work.
If you are into space type stuff, stop in Huntsville, Alabama and hit the Space and Rocket Center. Very, very cool place with lots of interesting things to see. Plus they have an imax theater and some cool rides and stuff. They also have a zero gravity machine. Even if you're not into space stuff, it's a cool place.

Once you get past Eastern Texas, you won't see much until you hit Arizona to be honest. Like I said, ABQ, NM is nice, but it's one of the only stops along the way. Hit up Phoenix and Tuscon (both college towns) in Arizona. Lots of fun nightlife and great food etc.

Is that all or nothing tattoo place in Atlanta? I do plan on being all blasted up one day and my brother and I have been talking about getting brothers tattoos. Is it a place where you have to make appointments way in advance or what?
Thanks everyone for the great advice! Im looking at the map and slowly trying to plan everything out. Im so excited.

Yup. That being said, make sure you car is reliable! Once you get west of Austin/San Antonio and its suburbs, civilization essentially ends until you hit the El Paso area. Thats hundreds of miles with little inbetween other than a bunch of sand, rocks, and the occasional gas station. The last thing you want is for your car to die in the west Texas desert hundreds of miles between those cities.
