It happens. Make a fortune. Piss the fortune away and then have to eat dog food when you're old IF you have a bowl to call your own.
Who has gone down that particular path?
I know the original drummer, Dewy whats-his-face got kicked outta Buffalo Springfield right after their first album and lived in a stinky apartment in L.A., spending his time mooching for his next drunk. He coulda been a contender.........

I might be mistaken, but I think here in Argentina you're not allowed to give publishing rights away... I'll have to look that up.

There are the sad tales of those who didn't get their due, and then there are tales of excess and stupidity. I woe the former and laugh at the latter.

Absolutely, I didn't realize the extent of his particular problem.
Jackie Wilson:
'At the time of his death, it was estimated that Wilson was $300,000 in debt.'
I don't know about Jaco's particular situation, but going by the description of his final days recounted in Bill Milkowski's book it sounded far from affluent.

He had been clean and sober for several years (but how steady I wouldn't know). He was at that time playing the drums for the Carpenters when Karen gave up the throne to be just the singer. I don't know about his personal troubles but Dewey was a really nice guy.
He died in 2009 in a Van Nuys apartment. I know Van Nuys and it's not such a great part of L.A.
