I need to vent

I was formally offered a position w/ a local construction company as a Senior PM on July 15 and accepted on the 18th. We agreed on Monday Aug. 4 as my start date. Well, we were supposed to have lunch yesterday so he could introduce me to a couple of the guys. He then told me yesterday morning he's busy and we'd shoot for later in the week. I had a feeling something was up, but this guy was almost begging me to come on board, so I didn't think twice. Well, I get a voicemail around 5:30 today asking me to call him and I could hear something was a little off in his voicemail. I called him back and sure enough, he was rescinding the offer due to current market conditions and is not filling the position anytime soon. Honestly, I'm not that disappointed. More pissed than anything. It was going to be a HUGE paycut from my previous position, but having been out of the workforce for the past 6 months, it was better than nothing. Having worked for this guy 11 or 12 yrs ago, I already knew the guy's a prick and I really didn't want the job but I was looking at it as just a temporary thing until something else comes along. I felt like he was taking advantage of me being out of work by lowballing me on the offer and a few things that were in the posting on Monster were not included in the offer letter. When I called him out on that stuff when I countered the offer, he had all kinds of bullshite reasons but I wasn't in a position to play hardball. I really wanted to tell him to blank off, but was professional and told him I understand and to keep me in mind in the future if things change. That was just a real douchebag thing to do to someone right before I was supposed to start! Oh well, blank 'em!
