Swan Neck Fingers

Sign in to disble this ad
So apperently they have a name for my weird and twisted fingers.

So now I'm supposed to get some type of braces/rings (tripoint splints I think) to prevent PIP joint hyper-extension.

Anybody here has swan neck fingers? Did those braces worked for you? Did you simply not care and still have them twisted? Anybody has problems related to swan neck fingers?

I know a guy with those. I didn't know it had a name, or an explanation and I was too afraid of being punched in the face polite to ask him about it.

Learn something new everyday.

My case is not as extreme as the google image ones, I guess I'll take some mandatory pics later. My main concern atm is to know if you can actually play bass / ride bike / etc etc with those braces.

Them fingers in a relaxed position:

Them fingers crisped:

Gotta clip my nails, and yes I have long fingers

As far as playing goes they're not a problem, but I'm a sucky hack that can barely play bass/guitar so it does not matter much

Ah, so you're just double jointed in your fingers from the look of it? I've got a couple of friends that can do that. Quite a few of them play piano without any problem, but I don't know about any of them playing guitar/bass

Dunno if it's the same as double jointed but when the orthopedist saw my fingers he was quite shocked and it sounded like an emergency crisis of some sort and he told me to go see my doc to get a prescription for the finger splints.

Your condition can be caused by inflammation or some sort of arthritis. Your orthopedist is right in urging things a bit so you don't damage your fingers further.

I have a mild form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so I don't like hearing of swan neck fingers

Yeah, I have a doc appointement on the 12th and one with the ortho on the 15th.

What's exactly Ehlers-Danlos? The wiki page doesn't say much.

I don't know a ton as I'm lucky and it's minor, but it makes me double-jointed in the fingers and wrists, and my hips and shoulders are prone to dislocating.

I learnt if from a nurse because there's a scar on my leg that didn't heal normally, and it's a condition that affects collagen (is it collagen? I think it is, not certain).

No, but if I can't burn those things with fire, I at least need to find a way to warn people about you.

Pfft, they are TOTALLY Salad Fingers.

Ziltoid also made some extra money in the early 80s working as a hand model for Steven Spielberg

I'm actually jealous- I've got short, inflexible fingers. I bet those things could be really useful.

If my fingers were any shorter I'd consider them Vienna Sausages.

Hehe, I can reach index on the 1st pinky on the 6th (35" scale), 1-5 if we're talking to actually do it "fast" and not look like a tard. Imagine the chords possibilities!

Now, I'm just teasing I'm a talentless hack

And I never got my check from Spielberg, that dam thief!

edit: Look at my user title

Use the rings/braces.

My mom (now 80) has swanning of her fingers from arthritis and they're about 80% non functional. Hers eventually bent back rather than down and some at odd angles. Its not anything you want.
