Systema?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm probably in some of the worst physical shape I've ever been in, and I've been looking to make some changes in my life. Considering I've taken on a new, very stressfull and frustrating job, I've resolved to get fit as means of blowing off that steam and generally improving my quality of life. I've been looking at ways of doing it, and where I'm hesitant to join a traditional gym/heath club, the idea of Russian Martial Arts seemed promising. Looks like it could be a really good workout, as well as a lot of fun. Anyone have any experience?

i did systema a little a few years back. i really enjoyed everything about it, and the only reason i didn't continue was the distance from my house coupled with lining up child care. i would take it again in a second if it were available here .
imho VERY practical for self defense, and i was in better shape after taking it.

I like Scottish martial arts. It's mostly just head butting and then kicking people when they're on the ground.

I would use a less colorful and more accurate description but yes, that's the jist of it (or close enough).

Anyway, been training semi-regularly these past two months and systema is so freakin' awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone living close to a Vasiliev approved school (don't try it on your own unless you have no objection to permanent injury). Though violent, it is psychologically and physically therapeutic and quite safe when practiced under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
