Taco Bell "Where's The Beef" Lawsuit?

Sign in to disble this ad
It seems as though a restaurant can't call something "beef" if the actual beef falls below a 40% standard set by government. I go there about every two months, mostly ordering chicken items, but the beef does taste like beef when I've eaten it. I had no idea I was actually eating spiced oats.

Quote:
Creed said Taco Bell is proud of the quality of its beef and identifies the seasoning and spice ingredients on its website.

According to that Web site, ingredients used to season the Taco Bell meat include salt, chili pepper, onion powder, tomato powder, oats, soy lectithin, sugar, soybean oil, garlic powder, yeast extract, citric acid and cocoa powder.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Taco Bell customer and California resident Amanda Obney does not seek monetary damages, but asks the court to order Taco Bell to be honest in its advertising.

Huh. At least it's not sawdust. Tastes pretty good to me, in an "I really shouldn't be eating this" sort of way.

Its more likely something akin to meat/TVP (textured vegetable protein) combination than 'spiced oats'. Is there actually no meat in their 'meat' at all?

I believe it was somewhere in the area of 30% meat. But the fact that the rest was still organic materials makes me rest a little easier

30% percent meat? Thats horrifying to me. I havent eaten there since I was a kid but damn. I dont see how you can even begin to call it beef if it is even less than 50%.

It's the same way with the little "apple" pies that you get at fast food places they are actually potatoes with apple flavoring

Of course I still eat the "apple" pies and Taco Bell I know it isn't good for me but it still tastes good plus if you haven't eaten Taco Bell in a while it'll give you a great detox

I order everything from Taco Bell with 'powdered bean paste' instead of 'soy meat' anyways....

Man, if you're in SoCal, and you're eating taco bell when you've got some of the best Mexican food on the planet all around you in every direction, then you're just doing it wrong.

Most Mexican restaurants have little vegetarian options and can't serve me a burrito in under 30 seconds.

Fancy Feast has more real meat than Taco Bell beef.

If you are eating Taco Bell and feeding your cat Fancy Feast, well......you can figure it out.

However, I like me a good 7 Layer Burrito every once in a while. No pseudo beef there.

However, the meat content in Fancy Feast comes from various parts of animals that most humans would not eat, as well as roadkill and other animals that have been put down.

Because I want food NOW! You'd order food at the Taco Bell near my old pad and they'd almost have the bag hanging out of the window as soon as you turned the corner.

At least I can tell that I'm getting real meat at the Taco Truck; even if it is beef tongue. Okay in fairness the Taco Truck serves picadillo (shredded beef) as well; and it's really good. And it's run buy real Mexicans as opposed to plucky pimply teens.

I used to bulk out cheap ground meat with oats and some spices all the time when I was broke. The oats break down and add bulk + texture to the mix without changing the flavour much. Cheap, filling, and pretty healthy. Of course, if it's Taco Bell you only get the first two of those three.

I don't think it is even called Taco Meat filling since it has, I think, 36% meat in it.

Taco Meat filling is correct. Beef would require 40% beef in the preparation, which is not met as it adds to - you are right - 36% right now.
