Without pointing fingers specifically (cause it's against the rules as I was just reminded), I want to express an extreme distaste for a messageboard that I have been lurking around over the past couple of years.
I was banned and accused of being a false entity (a fake handle to drum support for an argument in support of an associate of a relicworks on a guitar forum) and spamming - which is entirely untrue.
The ban message I received from them was extremely distasteful and reflects poorly on the unnamed messageboard.
The thread has been closed and it still contains gross inaccuracies about the relicworks in question and the respectfulness of it and its associates. I find that unacceptable.
My apologies for specifically slagging that website here, but I remain annoyed and insulted to be banned from a forum for doing nothing against its rules.
At least when I get notified by the mods here I've actually overstepped boundaries.
I am always impressed with the level of respect the moderators here extend to myself.
With the amount of traffic here it's always great to see things run so smoothly.
So for all the mods and posters here, a round of applause!

All the forums I've been to have been well-moderated forums. However, I have been to one - a golf forum, no longer in existence - that was never moderated. The level of trash talk there would have made an inner-city basketball court seem like a church social by comparison.
I've said it before - Talkbass and the Fender Discussion Group, two outstanding, well-moderated forums!

Off-topic posts get moved to the appropriate forums, unlike on Harmony Central for example, which was pretty much unusable because of forums totally clogged up with off-topic stuff. I wish there was a guitar site like TalkBass, with the same kind of competant moderators and administrators and spirit of community!

It's just like Talkbass - well-moderated, with a large, intelligent, knowledgable community who are always willing to help and answer any questions you may have. Of course they're skewed towards Fender products, but there are sections where you can discuss other products. Some of us here at TB also belong to the FDP. Give it a try! http://www.fenderforum.com

I spent some time on a baseball site that could have and should have been great as it was obvious from most of the comments that people were as passionate and knowledgeable about baseball as folks here are about bass. Unfortunately, the lack of moderation allowed a significant minority (of very active posters!) to post really unnecessarily biting personal comments that did nothing to advance the topic. After less than a month, I left and never went back. Even left feedback for the site's administrator suggesting stronger moderation - didn't hear back - which is pretty telling in itself.
