The talkbass appreciation thread!

I really appreciate the ability talkbass.com has provided to connect with other bassophiles all over the planet earth. I started thinking about how much smaller the world of bass was when I started playing in 1992; it was limited to local bass players and guys that worked in musical instrument stores in my local area. It is difficult to quantify exactly how much knowledge has been gained thru interactions with the TB comunitty, but suffice to say...it is a lot! I am blown away by the knowledge regarding new products, and general insights I gain thru TB on a daily basis... especially when I think back to the resources that were available to those of us that came of age in the pre-internet era. Share your stories and TB accolades! Feel free to give a shout to an especially helpful or knowledgable TB'er!

I'll move this to OT as it's technically not music related, and it'll get far more views there.

Maybe not exactly what you were talking about, but I've got nothing but love for the TB iPad app! I think my post count grew 3x since I got my iPad this past December. That and a bizarre medical condition have had me on TB more in the last 4 months than the last 5 years or so...

Even though I haven't been playing as much (hopefully soon to change), I still feel in touch with the instrument via TB, so thanks everyone!

I've been playing since 1963 and this is the first and only forum I've run across where great information can be shared.

Since I'm basically self taught just about everything I know has been gained by research from limited sources (the old days) and trial and error over a long period of time.

TB is a resource that gives older players an opportunity to continue to learn and for us to share what knowledge we've gained. For the younger players, TB gives them the opportunity for a jump start, to gain a wealth of knowledge without making the same mistakes along the way some of us experienced and to share new information and techniques with everyone.

Generally great conversation and great technical information!

Thanks TB.

I have a strong dislike for talkbass.com. Before I found this site, my $100 Ibanez Soundgear plugged into my $150 Crate combo was the best bass rig in the world.

I find it ironic that there is a thread regarding the greatness of "talkbass" in TB OT, the only section of TB where there is zero bass talk. In fact, half of the schmo's who post in TB OT don't even play bass!

At least I own some bass gear now. I went a long time with nothing. I'll turn the amp on today so I can say I use it, if I can find it under all the boxes in the garage.

It is a decent forum. If you learn to sort through the nonsense and opinions of people without knowledge or experience, there are some real gems to be gleaned.

A lot of us (including myself) take it for granted that we have a lot of the world's very best bassists posting regularly on this forum who make themselves available to our questions. That's no small thing.

I think you meant to post that in the "Icelandic Penis Museum" thread.

I joined these threads as a wide-eyed bassist, eager to learn from the myriads of guys who have more experience than me. And it was great! I loved it...

and then OT happened.

Now I pretty much come for the penis jokes and to see myself get photoshopped
