The Talkbass Cigar Club - Thread #2

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a continuation of this thread: The TalkBass Cigar Club

I saw that it was locked, but no new thread was started and no reason as to why. I've smoked an average of about 2-3 cigars a year for the past few years, mostly getting them from cigar bars and shops as one off's, and have just now decided to get a humidor and stock some for home use. I didn't want to put too much money into it considering I don't smoke very often at all, but I picked up these two deals from cigars international, one with the humidor, and one with the 5ct herf-a-dor:

http://www.cigarsintl.com/sax23
http://www.cigarsintl.com/sax24

I need a decent cutter as well, something well made but not overly expensive.

These are the ones I've been looking at:

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...LXGCUT3&cat=13
http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...-DB12-T&cat=13
http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...=M-DB05&cat=13
Or on the slightly more expensive side: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...LXSCUT1&cat=13

As for lighting, I was planning on just sticking with wooden matches, but it seems like a butane lighter might be more effective and efficient. Any thoughts?

I like cutters that can be taken apart so they can be resharpened. I don't know of any that use a serious blade steel so I find my self sharpening them often.

I have several multi flame lighters made my Xikar. They've all worked well for a few years and put out plenty of flame for larger ring size cigars. Cheap butane lighters never last for me more than a few refils

I'm not sure an expensive lighter like a Xikar is probably cost prohibitive for a very casual smoker like myself. At probably no more than 2-3 cigars a year, I'm thinking more and more to just keep a box a good quality matches around. As for the resharpening of cutters, I can see how that could be an issue for you, Mr. Knife-guy (), but again, with the frequency of my smoking, I just want something well made and easy to use, while giving a clean cut. But thank you very much for your advice!

Man! I wish someone offered a high quality folding knife with a cigar sized notch in the handle or something.......

I bet something like that might actually be marketable.

Subscribed.

I've always smoked a few cigars a year, but recently went ahead and started getting into it more. I bought a humidor and found nice deals on a Perdomo sampler and a Patel sampler. I also just got some Indian Tabac maduros and a Cohiba 5 pack, so I should be set for a little while.

There are definitely some very nice deals to be had out there. I've definitely been keeping my eyes open more frequently.

About 10 years ago, I bought a humidor and started collecting, usuallys samplers like you mentioned. Now I'm up to 4 humidors My customers send me cigars from their various travels and I still cruise all the usual sites and flyers for specials. I also visit Ybor City in Tampa to stock up as well. I smoke 2-3 cigars a week....
Sometimes more if I have guests or go to a show.

Anyone prefer a v-cut or punch to a straight guillotine? Also, please recommend some decent mild to medium cigars. Expand my brain, learned people.

It really depends on how the cigar draws from previous ones I've smoked. I use all 3 cuts depending on the cigar........and what cutter I can find at the time

I'll use a punch if I'm smoking a mixed filler but since almost every thing I have is long filler I usually use a straight cut.

Well, if nobody else is going to post, I might as well. Just had a 5 Vegas Gold Robusto, my first gold. I can easily see me buying more of these in the future. It offered a very good experience, mild-medium flavor, and very even burn. I'm happy!

The Golds are a too mild for me, but I really like their "A" and Cask Strength II.
