The TalkBass Night Brigade

Sign in to disble this ad
For those of us that tend to be on late at night, I invite you to join the Brigade. This isnt really a numbered thing, but more of a thread for night owls like myself to come and chat it up and explain why it is theyre up so late.

Anyways, I have insomnia and tend to be a very light sleeper, so TB keeps me company at night time. Whats your excuse?

I simply don't sleep much. I usually fall asleep at around 1 AM, then wake up at 5:30-6:00 AM to go to college.

right now, I'm working on a last minute report for my Intro to Music class. I'll probably take a break and play some more bass in a half an hour, smoke some hookah, and then finish it up.

Ya, I developed my insomia and general awakness at college as well. I went to a military school where we slept on wooden racks though, so that had a lot to do with it

oh no, I've been this way for years, only my sleep schedule has shifted since I was about a junior in high school. I remember as a HS freshman, I'd usually fall asleep at 10:00 PM and wake up at 3:00 AM to do homework.

Well when I was in HS, I had to go to bed early because I did Crew/Rowing and had to be up at 4:30 every morning. I used to wake up right before my alarm, so that probably had a lot to do with my insomnia development. The high stress of Rowing and academics in HS and the stesses of VMI/college, The Marine Corps, and playing Rugby in college had a lot to do with me losing a lot of sleep. I was ALWAYS tired, but could never actually sleep, and much hasnt changed.

high school academics were stressful? I think you were doing it wrong. I discovered very early that even in the honors program, I could pass every class with a B without ever doing a single homework assignment.

I'm up late because I have a semester-long project to finalize, and I received my teammate's newest contribution.

GRAMMAR EXTRAVAGANZA.

Actually, I'm done and fortunately going to bed now.

Ya, I did all the AP/Honors stuff as well, but I was more stressed about getting INTO college than the actual HS academics, thats all. I always wanted to do well on everything because my parents pressured the hell out of me to get good grades and to go to a good college.

I've always been a night owl. I think I have vampire blood in my veins. I've never been able to adapt to an early morning job. Just feel more comfortable being up at night.

hm... define "good college"

I really never understood what makes a college better than others. How and why is Harvard better than the Cal-state that I go to?

You get used to it really. I found my addiction to internet forums at college because we had to live on campus all 4 years, and werent allowed to have TVs. I had a bass of course, but when you have 3 other room mates and youre living in a room thats about 50 ft by 50 ft, you cant exactly pick it up and jam at night while they are sleeping (on their wooden racks no less haha). Thats really why I fell in love with TB and HC, because I was allowed a computer and spent a lot of my down time and nights when I couldnt sleep on internet forums. They were my only escape into the outside world and boredom from where I was currently at.

Now that Ive graduated, I have things like Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, and internet forums to keep me busy. It drives my girlfriend mad sometimes, but shes learned o fall asleep with the TV on.

As far as day to day activities, it doesnt really affect me at all. Being in the military keeps you active and busy, so I dont have much down time to dwell on sleep.

well, that's the real reason why I'm up so late every night. I say I'm just kickin' it with friends, playin' bass, and maybe doing homework, but what I'm actually doing is prowling the streets looking for unsuspecting virgins to drain. The thing is, i got an iphone, which is why I'm able to do this outside.

OOO!

gotta go, she looks delicious!

Never. Drink and smoke a little, and I'll work myself to sleep.

Prestige, perceptions, academic staff, alumni network, academic rankings, class sizes, graduation hiring rates, graduate research and funding, and athletics and extra curricular activities all go into what makes a college "good" or "bad" IMO anyways.

Where do you find the virgins in this day and age?

Networking when you get out, and opportunities while you're there. One of my good friends goes to Harvard, and she has the ability to do things that simply aren't available to a state-schooler or a lesser private-schooler (like I am) are simply astonishing. She went to Greece last summer on their dime to study archeology--and it took almost no effort on her part to get that gig.

the trick is to spy on Mormon churches and follow their occupants back home. Works like a charm.
