This is a tough game for me - I usually like to root for the underdog which would put me in the Everton camp but LFC need to jump over Everton in the standings in order to play in Europe next year.
Maybe I'll just root for a lot of goals.

| | | | Perfect weekend of football. Giggs keeps his every season record, 12 points clear of City with one of our toughest fixtures done and dusted, and a rare these days clean sheet, couldn't ask for more.
Jones was magic in the first half keeping Fellaini out of the game, and Rafael all 93mins keeping his whole side in line.

Howard did look a little old on the breakaway chances, not that RVP was going to be denied, but it shouldn't have been that easy.
MU is pretty relentless, you have to tip your cap to them. It would have been understandable if they would have turned in poor performance as they are sitting on a big lead after the City loss and they have the Champions game coming up - but the exact opposite happened - they were focused and ready to play hard for 90 minutes.

Maybe he's right!
I wouldn't go cheering the Jets if one of their fans fired some banter at my level of love of the Patriots.

A focussed 90 minutes is precisely what I expected (okay, hoped for).

I have never had a problem rooting for my rival if it improves my team's chances to win. I've rooted for the Canadiens, Jets, Yankees, Lakers, 76'ers, when the situation required it.

Consolations? Back in August, if you'd have offered us sixth place, with a dozen games left, above the redsh**e, I'd have bitten your hand off.
Lets not forget....35 million quid spunked on Andy Carroll. If only Davie had that kind of wedge. |

I don't think it's cultural either. I'm a born and bred American. Just like in the NFL, I almost can find no way to root for the Chicago Bears or Minnesota Vikings. I watched the game neutrally today. I like Everton as a team, but they are awful close in points to the Gunners. I don't like Man U at all, but I can't help but admire what a really good team they are now.

I can usually get the gist from context (although I have a feeling I shouldn't throw around the term spunked when I meet the Queen), but I'm a bit confused about the "bitten your hand off" - here we simply say that "we would have gladly taken it"

'Bitten your hand off' is as you interpreted it, only a lot more emphatic.

He's really stepped up as the help-defense in last month or so. Interestingly enough, Fergie seems to be using him in a man-marking role, rather than the more traditional zone-marking for a defensive mid.. |

You loose a players versatility, but then so do your opponents.
Some reckon using Jones like this in the last few games has been preparation for the same with Ronaldo, or Ozil, I should hope not though, Ronaldo has way too much pace to be held, and only needs one break, and concentration on Ozil while Ronaldo is about wouldn't make sense, IMO.

That, and watching the majesty of Pirlo against Martins boys.
Btw Martin....surely Liam Brady would make your ideal avatar? |
