You would have liked it - nothing fancy just a simple back flip - the classics never go out of style.

A shutout loss? Were we watching the same game? I thought West Bromwich kept a clean sheet.

But in fairness the dive he was booked for was less worthy of a booking than the one that won the penalty.

Aye, shutout = American for clean sheet, in this case, Liverpool were shut out from the goal.

We have to be wary of American sport-isms creeping in here

I got a whole bag full of them, just waiting for the right time.

WBA laid a goose egg on my Reds,

I'm familiar with shutout as a term, just not in an English football thread.

Liverpool are currently 12 points away from a Champions League place and 13 points away from relegation...

Yeah, enough of these American sport terms (like DEEEfence) - that's the boundary between me and my neighbours. Sorry, but American sports leave me cold. There's a time-out every 10 seconds, so players don't actually have to think for themselves. A game that supposedly lasts for an hour, takes 29 hours to play. I once saw an Olympic basket-ball game that had 20 minutes on the clock - 4 days later, they still hadn't finished. Actually, the game might still be going, I'm not sure. Time out, time out, time out, time out, time out.

If you check out the Guinness Book Of Records, you'll find that the longest game of American Football took 23 years to complete, and many of the players didn't live to see who won. It's true, check it out. One of the players had a kid during the game, and the same child got to watch the end of it with his wife and kids. Strange fruit indeed.

Halfway between Champions and relegation reminds me of a song done by some Liverpool lads (not sure if they were reds or blues or if they cared much one way or another)

Eh, I thought this thread spread out to the wider world of football, and shutout is a common term in MLS, I still think they just use it to be contrary though, despite the more likely answer being making it more easy for new American fans to relate to their usual sport choices.

There's plenty of tidbits of folklore that could persuade you either way.

For example, there is a Kopite on the cover of Sgt Pepper, who many reds take as conclusive proof that the Beatles were one of them. Until of course, you read the interview with Lennon when he says that he picked Albert Stubbins just because he liked the sound of his name.

They can be seen in several photos shoots wearing either red and white or blue and white scarves/hats/rosettes - less obvious initially because most photos from the sixties were B&W.

There was also the time McCartney was alleged to be about to invest in EFC back in the early 90's. He was a friend of the Moores family and was seen at the Hilton with the then chairman Peter Johnson. Turned out to be a chance meeting between friends.

There is a generation of fellas - my old man included - who swear blind that they saw John, Paul, George or Ringo at a game once!

The truth is I suspect they actually cared little for football, or indeed sport of any kind. Other than Lennon being seen at a baseball game in the 70's, I can't think of any paparazzi shot of any Beatle at any sporting event?

Its a shame you can't get our radio football phone-ins over the water. I kid you not, the apoplectic meanderings of those 'orrible reds are a joy
