As someone who grew up in the late 70's/early 80's when they were dominant - and I mean DOMINANT - it was a tough time to be an Evertonian surrounded by all those reds.

Nowadays, nearly 30 years later, vicious and unpleasant chanting can still be heard ("murderers", "39 Italians" etc) and derby match days are swarming with plod.

A small insight into the world of 'local, friendly rivalry'

Anyway, can you please keep your egg-chasing and rounders out of here. Further infractions will leave me no choice but to start talking about cricket.

Yeah, that European ban hurt English football for a long time. It's a bit unfair to give Liverpool all the blame - that sort of crap was rife in England at the time.

Best no talk about cricket - those poor American's head's will start exploding.

Wenger is apparently not embarrassed, just like Mancini after city went out of Europe. If that had been one of the title contenders fielding a weakened side you could legitimately shrug it off. But for a club who need any way into Europe thay can get, fielding a strong side... yep, that's embarrassing.

Thanks for the friendly support fellas...I noticed a distinct lack of a Spartacus moment there!

There's been a few threads I've wanted to post in, but couldn't bring myself to do it, even though about 99.99 % of TB'ers would neither notice nor care about the change.

What a truly horrible picture it was too.

I looked at that picture of Suarez and then looked at this...

... and then thought about why football now is so much less than what it used to be. RIP Derek, I miss you, mate.

For reference, this is the page the pic of the Doog came from. I WAS THERE. I was only nine at the time, but I remember a fair bit of it. I got to know Derek as a pal about thirty years later.

We also lost Ravi Shankhar today - inspirational and creative genius on his instrument.

He played in the early 60's, just for one season. He was a humble bloke, my father, and he said he only made a couple of substitute appearances. My mother said he was the first player picked every week, so who knows? (He died in 2004).

When he was a kid about 13 or 14, he played in the same team as George Best; not a bad team-mate! (he mentioned this to me in passing a couple of years before he died - I'd have been bragging to anyone who would listen LOL)

I love Wolverhampton Wanderers. I wish I was born in Wolverhampton so that I could be a true Wolves fan. Duncan Ferguson is a lightweight shandy drinker compared to the slab of granite that was Derek Doogan. Molineux is the most glorious stadium in the entire cosmos. My Everton tattoo is merely a cheap transfer that covers the inked black and gold club crest of the mighty Wolves.
