ok, so im not calling you guys fat, but i sure am, and ive decided to try and change it. i just have, like other people, self motivation issues. so, i thought that some of us who would like to lose some weight could have a little challenge to help get us going. its open to anyone who wants to be involved, ill start the actual challenge in say, about a week, so anyone that wants to join can, and ill compile the names, and beginning weights, in a week and start it. if you dont want to share your weight, thats fine too, but we do need to know how much you have lost.
anyway, feel free to join, and who ever loses the most weight wins bragging rights.
P.S. i need to know how long you guys think the challenge should be on for, any suggestions welcome
List:
1. Vbasscustom, weight- 241 lbs

Weight now: 134Kg (never was into that lbs thing)
Peak weight was 161kg back in '07 when I was 17.(You read it right) My weight loss kinda slowed down over these past few weeks (months? ) due to lazyness and procrastination.(main source of the weightloss downfall) Need some spark to start it back.

I've gotta get back on the wagon..lost 65 pounds but put back about 30 of them
probably around 230, I have to go hit the scale next time I'm near one.
Ps. I'm always interested in healthy meal ideas, I hate flavorless food, and I don't have the time to shop for fresh stuff all the time, so canned/freezable/fridge stuff. Man health food, not yogurt and crap like that.
Right now I basically eat a lot of tuna/turkey sandwiches with baked chips and I used to eat a lot of egg and salsa sandwiches fried with pam. Also I put hot sauce on everything, this makes healthy food somewhat better...and Birch Beer is the best diet soda, covers up the aftertaste real nice.
Lastly while things where working for me and I was getting to the gym I would eat healthy sunday-thursday and Friday and Saturday I would eat whatever I wanted...This allowed me to go out with the guys for wings and beer or order a pizza now and again + keep my sanity and stay on track.
My real problem at this point is exercise...I get none now that I'm in the full time working world. It's thrown me totally out of whack, and I want to wear my favorite shirts again. I used to hike all the time, now I'm a couch potato.

I have, basically, zero time (I know, I know ...everyone else is busy too) but if I don't start doing something now, its going to be a real problem in the not too distant future. My 14.5 year old niece wants to work out and has her parent's blessing to do so, but she needs guidance and a ride, both of which I can provide (I was an absolute gym rat 10-15 years ago). Since her parents are OK with her going, but don't really want to take her, I have volunteered to be her ride. And, having to take her puts me in a position where I will HAVE to go. It seems I need that kind of obligation to get started, which is probably a pretty sad commentary on where I'm at, but I'm trying to keep a positive attitude.
Sad thing is, I've already lost weight once in my life. About 12 years ago, when I turned 20, I had a minor car accident which gave me a pretty good case of whiplash, and it still effects me to this day. That led me to stop working out and not care so much about what I ate and I gained about 30 lbs over the course of a year. When that happened, I re-dedicated myself to working out and eating smart and lost every bit of weight that I had gained. So, on the positive, I know I have done it before and have a good idea of how to do it again. On the negative, I know how much work it was back then, and I'm not 20 anymore so it will be more difficult to do, and I have to lose a lot more than 30 lbs this time around.
I plan to visit a few gyms in my area over the weekend and find something affordable for both of us. Since my main goal is weight loss (I used to have the opposite problem, too skinny), I plan to do lots of cardio (love the elliptical machine) and light weights with high reps. For diet, I plan to drink LOTS more water and less of everything else, and try to cut back on processed carbs and excessively fatty foods, but I'm gonna try to make small, gradual, sustainable changes to my diet.
I don't know my weight at the moment, but I know it is in the 225-230 lb. range. I'll try to give a more exact weight over the next couple of days. I figure, all told, the whole process should a take about 1-1.5 years to lose all the weight that I need to lose.

That's not too abysmal considering I'm 6'4". But I sure wouldn't mind going through life without carrying the extra weight equivalent of a medium-sized bass cab at all times.

I weighed in at 187 which is a bit much for my thin frame at 5' 11 1/2". It really ticked me off, so I started my Draconian diet of veggie burgers, beer, and the occasional chicken or shrimp Caesar. This morning I weighed in at 168.5. Not bragging but I am almost 57 and I have noticed that my metabolism is starting to slow down, so I'm elated. My highest weigh in was in 2000 at 202, and I subsequently got down to 155 a few years later, so this is not new new to me.
The most important thing to remember is to eat slower! It's amazing how much more satiated you feel if you do. My girlfriend loves going to restaurants so when I can't get a salad and have to eat "normal food" I just eat s-l-o-w-l-y and cut the stuff into tiny pieces. It drives her nuts, but too friggin' bad. You can't argue with results. |

I've just started to find a workout system that works for me. I got a hold of some P90X and Shaun T Insanity workout vids (all from Beachbody). It's pretty intense cardio. For strength I just work on pushup supersets in different positions and some dumbbell work. If I laid off the beer, I'd probably have great progress. I haven't lost any weight, but my shirts aren't as tight, and nor is my waistline. And I'm seeing some definition in my arms again. 6' and still hovering around 265. Good luck, fellas.
