The targeted ads on Talkbass are scaring me

THEY'RE WATCHING ME!!!!

I've just been clicking random threads for a few minutes to see what ads they bring up. 90% of the time, they're related to the thread title. That kinda thing always makes me feel like I need a shower. Do you guys see this as a useful way to be directed toward products or services you're interested in, or as creepy cybersurveillance?

they are supposed to be related to the thread. And yes, they are watching you, welcome to the new order. I really hate how things are geared now, but on the other hand you are getting offered probably exactly what you need. It is the market in action!!! How can you even doubt the benefits of such thing.

Big Brother knows what you're doing at all times... and wants to know if you'd be interested in a free limited time offer to learn guitar in 24 hours!

They can advertise based on what websites you visit and what you write about in emails. Its crazy, even the fact that you can be tracked by your cell phone that you don't even have to be on is nuts. Yeah its time for a NEW WORLD ORDER. In the next 50 years I would bet everyone will need an id chip/card of some type. How else can we track you crazy bass playing fools!!!

The ones that pick off your IP address and tailor the ad to your location are what creep me out the most. Be interesting to watch how long IP masking stays legal and or doable.

Something I got told in the late '90's and it's probably more valid today was don't EVER keep anything on an online computer you don't want the whole world to know.

yeah... thats the one that always freaked me out. i expect ads on most sites, and thats fine. its almost second nature to ignore them, but when gmail is scanning my inbox for keywords i tend to feel thats a bit over the line (yet i continue to use their service... hmm...).

I have FF w/Adblock off on TB. It must be NoScript that's blocking adds. I've got google-analytics, and google adsense marked untrusted.

Plus, Track Me Not sends a constant stream of bogus searches to all major search engines.

If you're not tinfoil hat paranoid, you're not paying attention.

Facebook ads keep posting things like "meet hot, young, local singles" on my page.... Maybe it`s time for a new girlfriend
