Ok all my fellow pistoleers I've got a question! After carrying my 1911 Gov't model around for a while, I'm looking to get a more compact gun for carry. I'd been gassing for a Para Carry C6.45 but can't justify the skyhigh price. I also like the Springfield XD and since it's a polymer gun, it's way lighter than my 1911 but not as compact as I'd like. I ran across a Taurus Millennium Pro 145 at a gun show and really liked the size and weight and though I've heard of Taurus I confess I'm not that familiar with them. Anyone have any experience with this gun or Taurus in general? |

But that doesn't really help you.

Production guns usually run well or they dont. IMHO, you have to judge or test them on an individual bassis.
My Steyr and 3AT are both worn out and tattered looking but they run and stay on target. You don't need to spend a fortune for reliability. |

I've never fired a MilPro, but the price sure makes it look interesting if I was looking for a cheap personal defense weapon.
Found this site with some reviews if you haven't already seen it. http://www.gundirectory.com/more.asp...258&gun=Pistol

I'd read somewhere(back in the 90's) that some of the Taurus autos were having problems with the frames cracking from the force of the slide smacking the frame so I sort of dismissed them until now. |

I also feel the XDs are a bit too wide for that purpose too. I've had an XD-9 subcompact for almost 5 years now. I'm slowly moving towards trading it in for something else. They're very accurate and reliable though. I've just decided that it's worth it to get the slimmest gun possible without sacrificing the things most important to you (number one for everyone should be reliability followed by accuracy, after that it's moreso an opinion thing...caliber, etc..). The slimmer the better. I'm going to be looking into some various slimmer options such as the Walther PPS and the newest Kel-Tec 9mm.

Carry and keep it as your go to gun. Next try other guns until you find something you like better and is as or more reliable than your go to gun. In my experience of there's a gun at the range giving the owner problems, it's usually a Beretta. I wouldn't trust one of them for anything. Also the limited run or small run, almost custom guns. They get rave reviews in the magazines but once they start selling them to the masses, they have problems. It's always nice to have a go to gun to rely on as you explore all the other possibilities. |

Disassembly is easy as pie and some of the features are better and a great warranty to boot. I highly recommend Taurus from the experiences of my friends who own them and my own personal experience. Yes, I owned a Taurus PT-92. Blued, fixed sights, walnut grips. It was one of the best pistols I have ever owned.
As for CCW with a pistol 1.24" wide, what's the problem? I carry a thick Para P13-45 on my small 5'8" @ 150lb frame with no problems. Remember, it's all about the clothing you choose to wear for CCW that will decide whether you print or not. |

Dependable, fast, no safety, and if you can't kill it with six shots, you better get ready to salute it.
The only semi-auto I've ever owned that didn't have an occasional hiccup was a S&W Model 39. But it was a full-size 9mm and no smaller than a 1911. Great firearm, though, and double-action on the first shot. |

They are single stack and like Brad said, it makes a difference ecspecially for summer concealment. I'm hesitant about Taurus Semi Autos, but I have heard nothing but good about their revolvers. I would quicker go to a Glock or Smith M & P if I was trying to save money.

I shoot their 97B's in .45. We also have several other models and ALL are 110% reliable and very well made. I bought my wife many guns over the years, including some expensive ones like HK P7's and she just LOVES her $400 75 compact!! My 85 Combat model is also a fantastic, full size 9mm. |

Spector_Ray, the frame breakage issues were only with some first run versions of the 945. Taurus has fixed that problem by beefing up and redesigning the frame somewhat. Ofcourse, they do have a transferable lifetime warranty if you got an older one and for some reason it did break. |

But when the PT series came out I had a friend who bought one, and while it's reliability was OK. I was not impressed with the quality of the smaller parts and interior fit and finish at all. I realize that their are a lot of other rough guns (like Glocks) but they have been proven with years of serious police work.
I would normally recommend a 1911 sans Pac but the OP expressed some financial limitations. With firearms, I would rather sacrafice a few comfort features for proven reliability.
