This is NOT a parent complaint thread.

My parents have been asking what I want for Christmas, and I am pretty content with what I have. I told them there wasn't much I wanted. I brought up a new bass, but no since I already have one, that's out of the question.

Since I don't have a list, my dad sees that as a sign that I have too much. I think it's a sign of contentment and being grateful. What do you think TB Parents?

Secondary question: reasons to have two basses. I was thinking of putting flats on the one I have to get a completely different sound. But I don't think he likes the fact that I'm musically interested and not into sports.

Reason for a second bass:

Youre at a show, in the middle of a song, all is going great when *snap* a string breaks.
Now, you can spend the rest of the song restringing your bass, or you can grab the one on the stand, plug in real quick, and pick back up before the song is over.

A backup is a must!

Also, since when is not wanting more a sign of having too much? If anything it'd be a sign of having just enough. I dont see it as a sign of contempt, but yes to "being grateful". I was always asked what I wanted for Xmas... "I dont know" was my usual answer. Until I started playing bass, then it was usually ABCpedal, etc.

Are you sure it isn't a sign of contentment...not of contempt? Not really the same thing.

I think another thing is I'm not in a band at the moment. Granted it's because they divorced and we all moved out of state. But I'm trying.

Edit-
Elgeckco, yes, I meant contentment. I'm content, this iPhone keyboard... Gotta slow down.

Yes, I have an iPhone. That's why I don't need an iPad, which they've asked me about several times. I'd rather have more music gear than electronics any day.

You dont need a reason to own two basses! You need more basses...

Regarding presents, im in the same boat, cant think of anything i would want!
Doesnt make much difference since we dont really get each other presents anymore and havent done the whole Xmas thing in years...

Yeah. I've got 5 guitars too. 3 acoustics, two of which were never meant to be mine and were given to me. One was my moms (she never touched it) and the other an '83 Fender which sat in a closet for nearly 30 years and saw no playing time. The other is a cheap mitchell I bought my self. I shelled out 300 dollars at age 13 to to buy a strat starter pack. Then got a nicer guitar last year for Christmas. So guitars are basically what I live for. I don't care about anything else. And I guess that bothers him.

Can you ask your relatives for gift cards to your favorite music store? That's what my daughter does for Christmas and then her birthday..Then we make a special trip so she can try things out and we'll supplement within reason...usually wait until we have a coupon . She has it pretty easy though to justify when her father has a few drum sets and there's always some cymbal showing up from eBay.

Hope you get your wish!!

Thanks! That's what I always ask for, but apparently I have to have a box to open. Plus the bass I want has to be specially ordered, and the one I want is the 2002 model, on eBay, and is near 300 dollars cheaper than the new models, which the only difference is the colors (I like the older colors better) and the coils on the P pup flipped, which I could just order a new pick guard to accommodate for if I wanted to). But yeah, eBay only. One way or another, I'm getting this bass.

Of course....There's a gift card for just about everything! I get them for my mom all the time. Where I live you can purchase them at the grocery store/pharmacy etc...

Here's the online purchase link you can forward to your parents or all your relatives who ask you what you'd like.....
eBay Gift Cards - Buy and give eBay Gift Cards, gift certificates or retail store, restaurant, entertainment and travel gift cards

The seller has to accept PayPal and you can use more than one at a time:
Here are the rules:
Paying for Items with eBay Gift Certificates, eBay Gift Cards, and eBay Coupons

So drop hints, get good grades, be nice and practice a lot so they know you're serious. As a parent, if my kid did that (and the price was something reasonable), I don't care how old....I would totally pretend like that was out of the question and make up every excuse in the book why that couldn't happen....and then surprise her on Christmas morning -

Please post a follow-up after Christmas!
Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving

Thank you! He doesn't ever see me with a bass because I live with my mom, usually when I'm with him I just take a ukulele, because it's easier to lug than a bass. I play my bass way more than guitar. He said he could understand multiple guitars, but not basses. I asked why that was, because it's the same situation, and he didn't realize how much I use the bass.

As for the secrets, that's what my mom did with m guitar last year. Originally, she got me a laptop, but I was dead-set on getting that guitar, but she told me no, so I figured I would just wait and see if I could afford it after Christmas. She ended up getting the guitar instead, and had to keep the laptop for herself, which made me feel kinda bad afterwards about being difficult. I drop hints. I leave the eBay page with it up, leave the eBay search up, "mom isn't this a cool bass?"

But I'll be grateful for whatever I get. I will definitely update, hopefully with pictures of a shiny new bass!

Thanks for all your help. Happy Thanksgiving!
