Thumbs down TB is really boring...

Sign in to disble this ad
when I was a newbie, TB seemed the promised land of knowledge about low end. Many years later, my opinion is completely different. In this forum, there is little space for music, for bass, for artistic beauty, for creative purposes. Everyone is aimed at showing their last purchase, I have seen threads (the clubs) in whitch there is no mention of the sounds that instrument produce, there are no sound clips. Instead, there is only the empty proud of owning the 4000 dollar beauty, and so on...really boring. For example, there are several pages about CB basses. Wonderful pieces of wood, no doubt, but, how many of you have heard the sound of a CB bass clearly. How many of you can purchase such a bass before having a solid opinion about the timbre? The same example could apply to almost everything else and not only on sounds. Reviews are heavily biased, every insrument seems to be the holy grail, in fact, many of TBers probably do not have enough balls to admit that the 5000 dollars beauty just purchased blindly sound completely disappointing to their ears...
Excuse me, I do not want to start a discussion. Please do not feel offended. I was only sharing my disgust. Sorry also for my english.

You'll find that on any forum. the key to getting good info is to know the people who post the information as either young kids running their mouths or actual seasoned players who know the difference between a P and a J and know what they like. Because so many people have so many different likes as to how they want a bass to sound, it's really hard to know where they're coming from but when you see regulars and professionals coming in and posting, that kind of tells me they may have some good information. It's all about getting acquainted with who's who. IMO mind you.

My only gripe would be to get rid of the "which is better" or "which is the best" threads. Cleary there is no real answer so why waste time with those threads. I can understand the OP's gripe but there are PLENTY of helpful ones too like Tim B said...

I'm not a big fan of the whole "club" thing, as it can create a kind of 'us & them' situation but it is handy for getting info on a particular bass/type of bass and so on and have heard plenty of sound clips in them.

I like this forum a lot, although I mainly lurk, plenty of helpful people around. I DO think however that it is a bit over-moderated, I mean not being able to say a bass is ugly is a bit ****. If that's my opinion, and people have asked for opinions I dont see why I can't say it. Most people have enough intelligence to realise that not everyone will love their bass as much as they do.

edit: and now even my language has been moderated.

Hmmmm... I am a child who likes to run his mouth, but I have a defined taste and know what basses/amps/pups/strings I like. So which am I?

I find TB boring a bit too, I come to waste time and I post in all the threads I want to within a few minutes. Having 40 friends on facebook makes it a good time waster too

I had more fun when I had more friends. The photoshop threads was my dwelling place, now I've kinda wondered from thread to thread. LOG thread was my happy home for a good bit but it gets old when you don't have a friggin lakland.

My opinion (life story)

It's all subjective. We'll let TB decide who you are.

Original poster can feel free to start putting up sound clips of his basses any time he wants...

He can also spend a few minutes filling out his profile. Help "make" the community what you wish it to be... which is a community of individuals with different needs, wants and preferences.

And the threads probably better in the Miscellaneous or some other forum than basses.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. However if you were a "Supporting Member" then I would listen to you without thinking that you are just trying to stir up TB members. I mean "get a life !!" I'm not going to defend this forum to you but there is a lot more here than most forums. Sure you have the elitists just bragging about their high priced gear but you also have supporting members that know a whole lot about Basses and Amps. Feedback about stuff before you buy is very valuable. Ok I'm stirred up...see you around dude.....

Angry

To the OP:

You are more than entitled to your opinion, but to troll and say:

"Excuse me, I do not want to start a discussion. Please do not feel offended. I was only sharing my disgust. Sorry also for my english."

You stir emotions, and yes a discussion has started. Perhaps next time you should keep your disgust to yourself.

TB can be a plethora of knowledge if you know how to use it and how to search. What gets me is these people who post threads like "show me your tattoos", "which side of the drummer do you like to stand on", "show me your purple basses". That's my two cents worth.

I agree with some of the previous posts. If you need info, know who you are talking to. There have been a few guys on here that have me good advice. Also, all gear forums are like this, they get redunant because there are limited things to talk about.

Well, I'd vote to ban the 'I'm a Christian bassist' and the endless namedropping of 'So, when I was I down at my church worship group the other day...', threads. The 'best' threads pale into insignificance by comparison with the religious nuts. I mean, since when did rock become religious??? Did I miss something??
