So, I clicked on the link Jacolesflea posted about the school shooting, and because of my severe lack on an attention span, I clicked away on one of the side banners, and found this!

http://potw.news.yahoo.com/s/potw/52...en-millionaire

She borrowed $8 for a website from her Mom, and 3 years later, it's now a multi-million dollar company.

VERY cool.

I know someone in a nearby high school who did much the same thing, about 7 or 8 years ago. The kid since had his business go under, his house was foreclosed, and he's declared bankruptcy. Luckily, like the girl in the article, he dropped out of school to concentrate on the business

This sounds like the workings of an infomercial.

Ad revenue. Advertisers will pay websites to advertise on their site. The higher the web traffic on the site, the more the advertisers will pay.

Companies will pay a lot of money for the opportunity to seperate you from your hard earned money.

You know, maybe being too nice isn't what is keeping you single...

And, if you have a web site with adds and a lot of traffic AND you somehow manage to convince people to pay money to support... well, I'll bet you could make a freaking killing!

Why can't you? It's the internet after all.

As for the actual article, there's nothing like hitching your family's financial future to piggybacking a trend. I hope she has a plan for when MySpace falls out of favor or does a major redesign to their software.

Reminds me of a guy in Sacramento who cashed in his savings to open up a Pog store. I'm guessing he wishes he could take that decision back.

Actually if you have a lot of traffic, like millions of visitors, you don't convince people of anything.

You just use things like google adsense to put content sensitive links on your site. they get paid everytime someone clicks on an ad. People looking at one thing will click on another similar thing of interest. Look at the adsense posted on parts of this site.

The real trick is getting the milllions of visitors.

Anybody who can figure out how to make money like that off the net is pretty clever. I work for IBM, and I work all day and and some nights for my salary. More power to her.

A couple years of making a million bucks + a good investment strategy = never having to work again from what I understand. Maybe they're piggybacking a trend, but they're piggybacking it all the way to multi-millionaire status.
