Telco POTS line question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm switching over to Digital phone service form Time Warner Cable (cheap bundled pricing). I want to be able to use this service from all the jacks in my house, ~5.

In order to do this, I need to disconnect my existing ILEC's pair (red and green in this case). I live in an older row house and do not have a NID outside my house. In my basement I have a junction box which has all my jacks connected to it. The problem is I cannot get to the pair from my ILEC. There is a thick black shielded cable coming into the top of the box, and I'm guessing it's prewired inside. I cannot get in the box.

Just checking, but I should be able to go to home depot, pickup an $8 junction box and move all my jacks to that correct? The junction box just acts as hub right?

Thanks

Intercept the feed from the station, which is probably inside that black shielded cable, and tap into it with the feed from your new digital device. Just wondering, what did they give you for the digital router? I'm surprised TWC did not offer to do this for you as part of the install. Have you called your local ILEC and let them know to disconnect? Maybe when they come out, you can get in that box that is sealed shut.

Hi, They did offer to do this, for a fee...Used to work for ISPs long ago, so figured I'd do it myself.

I have Wideband Service from them so they don't have a modem that does both Wideband and phone service. They gave me something else will have to double check the name.

The ILEC (VZ) will shut the service when TW ports my number. Happening Thursday.

Thanks

BTW, I should add; I'd just cut the black shielded wire, but I do have a second line from the telco which I'm keeping that's coming in on the yellow and black pair.
