The HRCs or PC SHOW TRIALS are at it again. In this case they have found their is sufficient evidence to try a comic for hate speech due to lesbian jokes. Now he may be a bad comic, and according to the article their may have been alcohol involved (really? ). Well the Good news for Mr. Earle is that an HRC finally dropped a complaint, for the first time in several hundred cases (more about that in another thread). But his odds aren't good, so far out of 300+ cases brought before Canadian HRC's only two have been found not worthy of pursuing, and if they pursue, your guilty, Stalin would be proud. Do we really want to get the legal system involved every time we're offended? Well apparently if it's Canada the answer is yes. http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/n...b-7a075a3766e2

He will be going in front of a human-rights tribunal because during a show, he and other comics were heckled by a lesbian couple who were allegedly loud, drunk, rowdy and disruptive (screaming at him that he hated lesbians, and making out during his set), so the comic lost his cool. He wanted to "put the hecklers in their place" by offending them, so he went for the obvious choice: they're lesbians. He says that "it was the only thing I could immediately key in on".
So, he made some remarks that now have the pair of hecklers accusing him of going off on a homophobic tyrade which they were deeply offended by.
Now, the comedian acknowledges that he was in the wrong, and should have taken a different avenue when it came to shutting them up.
Personally, I side with the comedian. It's all too easy for people to act like complete twits, only to complain that their delicate sensibilities have been offended and they've been discriminated against because someone has stood up for their right to perform. Total nonsense.

I agree, this seems like an abuse of the HRC's process in much the same way that the US sees its court systems getting abused by frivalous lawsuits (see the NM wedding photographer as an example).

I didn't see that he got arrested. Bit of a gross exageration once again, Burke
In a similar vein of stupidity, about 15 years ago, my mother was personnel director for the largest school board in Ontario. She got a call one day from HRC advising her that a complaint had been filed against her by a teacher my mother didn't hire. The allegation was that this person wasn't hired because they were black.
My mother was horrified, and scared and went to her filing cabinet to pull out this applicants file. The file contained a resume and a note saying "no interview conducted".
My mother went back to the phone and asked HRC person to point out exactly where on this persons resume did it mention skin color? Of course, no where.
Great outfit.
And on top of that, the Toronto Maple Leafs SUCK.

When I was in elementary school, I was once given an in-school suspension for calling a Special-Ed student "Dumb". He tried to trade me a bruised apple for my sandwich, and I said "That's a really dumb idea."
I'll never forget how outraged his parents were when they came in to berate me in front of the principal when their precious little snowflake tattled on me.
Welcome to Canada, land of people with no balls.

Kind of like "re-education cabal" or "social programming committee".
I wonder if they'll consider his right to state an opinion.

Welcome to Canada, land of people with no balls. | Do you guys live in pussy Canada?
I think the worst that ever happened to me was getting the silent treatment from a girlfriend for laughing as a wheelchair transport bus went speeding past and literally two seconds later, a woman pushing a man in a wheelchair came around the corner, sprinting after it. Not gonna lie, I lol'd. Tons.

Guy Earle (the comedian who is accused of hate speech in responding to drunk hecklers) is having a fundraiser to help pay for his legal fees in Toronto. The point here is that the speech fascist don't even have to "win" in the Kangaroo Court (they have never found anyone innocent in over 300 cases - Stalin would be proud). All they have to do is summon someone to a hearing, impose on them travel costs and legal fees. This is effective, because now every comedian, will have to be sure that none of their jokes could possibly offend one of the "protected" groups, rather then going to the hassle of appearing before tribunals and hiring a lawyer just to earn a living. http://ezralevant.com/
Ezra Levant is a great website to keep up on the speech fascist in Canada. He himself was found guilty for the "crime" of reprinting the Danish cartoons that caused the Islamic riots in Europe. For his crime of informing people of exactly what the ruckus was about (the very description of the job of a journalist) the offending magazine was bankrupted as he was forced to pay thousands in legal fees and fines. The good news for Canadians is the courts and the legislature are beginning to take notice and the Taylor decision has severely limited the HRC's in Ontario. The hope is that a case will come before Canada's High Court to effect the entire country. The problem is, so far, the HRC's haven't prosecuted anyone who could afford to pursue the matter legally up the ladder. The HRC's prosecutions are paid for by the government, Not like a civil court where the both parties are responsible for their own legal fees. So anyone can bring a complaint for any reason, and the government pays for the prosecution. But the defendant is on his own.

Similar thing happened to me. Riding a bus one time, dead of winter, lots of snow on the ground. An elderly woman slipped when getting off of the bus, and fell bum-first into a snowbank, and got stuck there like a turtle. Now, my first reaction was to rush down the steps, help her out and ask her if she was okay. She said she was fine, and was laughing pretty hard at what was admitedly a really funny scene. So I started laughing too.
I was greeted with such outrage and venom when I got back on the bus for "laughing at a helpless old woman". Some latte-chugging, yuppie pantywaist even offered to "kick my *** off the bus to see if I thought it was so damned funny", too. So even after I helped this woman get up (Mr. Starbucks was evidently too absorbed in the contents of his travel mug to get out of his seat to lend a hand) and shared a laugh at this woman's expense, I'm made out to be a monster. Funny how that works, eh?

I'd love to hear what he said. Even Michael Richards, as far as I know, didn't have to go to court over his tirade. I don't know if comedians should have 'the right' to be rude to their hecklers, but it shouldn't matter in a free country. If you don't like the comedian, don't go to the show. Michael Richards probably lost a lot of business over his comments, and maybe this guy will too. What else do you want to do to him? If you make lesbians a class protected from criticism, I would think it would be a step backwards. |

If the protected group gets offended the government takes up the cause. If someone from the protected group says something really hateful to or about a member of the one unprotected group (let's say white, Christian, straight males, for instance) and no one bats an eye.
