So I'm really tempted to buy an XBox 360 Arcade. A used one can be found for ~120 on eBay. I'm worried that since it only has 256MB, I wouldn't be able to save any games on it. How much and what can I do with 256MB of hard drive? What are some downsides of the Arcade?

I just got one with a 20 GB hard drive, and 4 games for $180. The games alone were around $150!!! Starwars The Force Unleashed (costs $45 used), Call Of Duty 4 ($40 used), Gears Of War 1 & 2 ($20 and $45 used). I rarely play it but my kids love it. I'm just waiting for Resident Evil 5 |

Definitely look at getting a hard drive if you want the Arcade.
And the wired controllers are inconvenient. I much prefer the wireless ones.

I probably won't be getting many games either. Just two or three... Something to do when I'm not crushed by my loads of schoolwork. And I will be selling it around May.

You'd be really lucky if you even can fiddle with a joy stick after karma/I get you back for saying that

I recommend PC games personally.

All I know is that my computer runs fast.
The added expense of having an Xbox means that I'll have to buy a TV too.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Cambridge, Ontario | | | I bought the Arcade about a month back. The biggest save game file I have ever seen is 60 MB, and that is monstrous. You can save multiple different save game files on the memory card (the Arcade comes with a memory card, not a hard drive). Downloading map packs and such will be the only drawback. In terms of installing, you don't "need" to. A hard drive can be a good 100$ depending on the size so only get one if you plan to play online and have downloads and add-ons. It comes with one wireless controller which works nicely. The only difference I noticed between all the different models is the longevity (older models "red ring" much quicker with extended use) the size of the hard drive (if there is one), and the kind of inputs for HD televisions.
For your application, the Arcade is a great idea. In terms of resale value, don't expect too much; buying used Xbox's is almost always a bad idea.
Hope that helps

If you are only going to play casually (Once every few days) then go for the Arcade. I wouldn't buy the Arcade personally since it's so inferior to the other two options.
On the other hand I also wouldn't buy an Elite. |

On the other hand I also wouldn't buy an Elite. | Not to be anal, but the only real difference between the Pro and Arcade is the fact that the Arcade does not come with a hard drive. You can still play a lot daily with the 256MB card, you just can't have 20 different save files. You could probably squeeze out 16 or so. The main reason for getting a pro would be if you own 15+ games and plan to play them all often. |
