Texas is burning! Send us your rain or happy thoughts. We finally get a break from the 100 plus days that turned everything into crispy tinder, get a little wind and whoosh. There are active wildfires all across Texas, several within just a few miles of my house. Yesterday had a fire across the road that took out 3 acres and 2 houses now there is a much larger ones taking out entire neighborhoods and even a primeval forest around Bastrop.

Fire Activity

That sucks. At least you don't have to deal with trying to drive to work in 3 feet of snow like I do.

3 feet of snow would be most welcome, at least today.

Having lived in both Texas AND Ohio, the heat, while miserable, is far preferable to 6 months of ice, snow, sleet, potholes, fenderbergs, and year-round rusty cars.

We need the rain though!! This was the hottest summer here on record. Nasty.

This heat is no joke. Makes me want to consider moving elsewhere.

I've got a whole weeks worth of rain here, but you'll have to come pick it up, I can't afford the gas.

As someone who lives in Central NY and deals with the same long winters I have to know what "fenderbergs" are.

Isn't that the ice and slush that builds up in the fender wells?

I assume so, but I just want to be sure.

nothing like having a few acres of dry grass next door with a 4 lane road on the other side. not looking forward to having everything i own go up in smoke because some jacktard threw a cigarette out a car window. isn't that how a lot, if not most, roadside fires start?

Coming from a fire-prone area (AU), you have our best wishes, and hope all family and friends are ok.

That would be correct, including the "formations" that build up on the outside of the fender where the wheels kick up snow as you drive, creating big dirty clumps that gather and eventually fall off.

Fire season is just starting here in San Diego. Oddly enough it rained today. First measurable rain in 90 days and very rare for September.

My thoughts go out to everyone in Texas. Good luck.

haha, we always called them poops for some reason. My daughter and I love kicking them to get them to fall off.

Had a tiny bit of rain over the weekend. Just enough to make the dirt on my car smear and look 3 times as bad.

I woke up to go to work today and heard sirens all about. Leaving work I saw smoke coming from 2 different location in the hills above our house.

Must not have been enough rain to saturate the ground.

The Bastrop Complex fire is terrifying 30,000 acres and 0% contained, wiped out an entire National Forest and still going.

Prayers for your safety coming from the west. I hope only what you want to burn burns.

You're more than welcome to all of Ohio's rain for the next 3 weeks, just as long as you keep the texas heat to yourself, and haul away Ohio's rain on your own. It finally started cooling down, and has been a nice 67 deg's yesterday and today. Now maybe I can finally get out to ride my bike.

Sounds pretty bad in Texas. I read that over 1000 homes have been lost

Best wishes to everyone affected.
