Texas school district to let teachers carry guns

A Texas school district will let teachers bring guns to class this fall, the district's superintendent said on Friday, in what experts said appeared to be a first in the United States.

I could have sworn I saw an article a year or two back about how some Utah teachers were doing this. Anyone else remember that?

any student on the *forgot the name* campus are allowed to apply for a permit to carry a gun on compus at any time

Nah, it wasn't a college deal that I'm thinking of. It was about the teachers at public schools.

oh - no i havnt heard of that

i think its kinda dumb unless they are forced to take classes on how to shoot and handle them otherwise there just as big a threat as the assailant

I read a more detailed article earlier. It seems as though there are no law enforcement agencies near. West Texas is a big place. It seems they could end up being the only protection available in the event of a school shooting situation.

You're referring to this, of course:



I used to work with someone in the IT field who had been an elementary school teacher in Texas. She quit when one of her students brought a knife to school and tried to kill her.

I don't think this law is out of line.
