As Memorial day approaches (in the US) let us all remember WHY this is a day that we "celebrate".....it is not just the first holiday of summer, it is not just to have cookouts and to visit with friends....
It is to HONOR those who have died in service to our country so that we may have the freedoms and the democracy we have.
Please - in the busyness of the day, take a few moments to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can have the life we have and those who are serving now to keep that lifestyle alive and prospering....
I know that "Memorial Day" is a US holiday, but I know many other countries have similar days and the veterans (and those serving now) in those countries deserve a sincere "thank you" as well.....
THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE THEIR COUNTRIES AND WHO SACRIFICE (THEY ALL DO) FOR OUR GOOD!
God's speed!
Doug

Yes thank you for starting this thread....
I will be visiting my father on Monday who is a Vietnam veteran and a retired Navy S.E.A.L.
and I will be flying my flag
to the Veterans on the board from one to another...Thank You
If you see a Service man or woman on Monday please stop and shake their hand, you would be suprised how far that goes and how it makes people feel, especially considering the political climate in the U.S.A. and around the world today....
once again Know that there are those of us here still supporting you and once again, Thank You!

Dad was a radio man carrying around 60lbs of gear and my granddad actually was once of the footsoldiers that had to "investigate" the aftermath of Hiroshima as well as other things.
They never talked about it, war is brutal, but seeing my dad with my son and how much he cares I know there is still a caring person under that scarred shell, even if the PTSD and other things made him a little distant growing up. War is real, the scars are real, the people fighting these wars are real. They are brothers, sisters, moms, dads, sons, daughters and so on and need the support of loved ones and their country regardless of politcal views.
To all of those that has served and are serving, my thoughts are with you. Especially those that have passed on this Memorial day.

Doug | Actually I don't think it's veterans who have died, I think it's for people who have died. I think Veterans day is for (living) Veterans. Haha But yeah don't worry my generations is going to have a bunch of veterans to be grateful for.
By the way I have a Grandfather A great uncle, Two cousins, and an uncle who are all veterans. =]

once again Know that there are those of us here still supporting you and once again, Thank You! | 1) I think there are ALOT of us who care (maybe not enough though)
2) I fly my flag EVERY day in their honor.....I recently had it down for a couple of weeks due to a rip (which my wife had to find the time to sew up) and it felt "wierd" to have it down!
3) Say "Thank you" every time you see a service person....I do alot of traveling for my business and I travel to many smaller cities and they have a GREAT way to honor their veterans....when they know people are coming back from overseas, a group congregates at the airport....when the service personnel pass buy, those who are there clap! I feel choked up everytime this happens!
4) tell your dad "thank you" for me!
Doug

my direct ancestors have fought in almost every American war since the Revolution. I currently have a cousin in the USMC, and I plan to join the Army this fall.
but to the ones who are in and/or have served, especially those who died - they always, every day of the year, have my thanks. |

Lord knows I am not sure I could make some of the decisions that have been made!

| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | | You're welcome.
Last Tuesday was the twenty year anniversary of my discharge. Some folks from my era, and others, I'm sure, think of that as their 'other birthday'. My coworkers were confused when another old Navy guy there at the Hospital told me 'Happy Birthday.' They kept asking "Isn't your birthday in July?"
My family is rotten with ex-military folks. Grampa served in the Pacific in WWII(Navy). Uncle went to VietNam(Army). Dad and another uncle were in during the VietNam era but didn't have to go there (both Navy) Cousin was a Marine and I was Navy. (both in the '80's)
And + 1 Thank you.

Without you, we would not have the freedoms that we take for granted every day.
Thank you all.

The scars of war are all too real. Anyone who is strong enough to deal with that deserves a million thanks in my book.
