So I'm talking to my mother on the phone...

I think she's getting daft.

First she says that they should bomb the Middle East because they're always fighting. "Just nuke the whole thing" she keeps saying.

Then she's telling me to watch out for a tornado because there is a tropical storm and it might cause more oil to spill into Louisiana. And that they should bomb Louisiana because its one natural disaster after another.

And then that they've given money to Haiti and corporations but they can't help people at home. Luckily she didn't suggest a bombing run on the island.

Anyone else get the feeling that their older parents are slipping off the deep end?

Just think, in a few more years you should be just like her. I'm not much in favor of her idea of bombing Louisiana. Some of my favorite people are here. I can't say that I am totally against it, though. It might take care of a few problems. I would appreciate some advance warning, if that would be possible.

I'm 20 and she's 63. We don't have much in common.

Our last phone call was about how how the guy at the gas station ripped her off 3 cents because she bought 3 Arizona iced teas and he charged her $3 instead of $2.97. Oh yeah and the neighbors are looking in too. (Which is why she has her blinds shut everyday all day)

Don't feel bad. My mom said she ran into my dad on the bus one day a while back and he asked her where he was and how to get home. He's only 53.

It could be worse. My mom did kazoo solos in church. That's something to make a guy proud.

Asking a 63 year old woman about her vuvuzela is a quick way to get your face slapped.

I think that when we are young, we have this idea that we can change the world, we can do anything we put our minds too, and a lot of other positive ideas. Once you get beat up by life its harder to keep this positive ideas.

It becomes easier to be negative as we get older. Less to look forward to. Same old story, war in the middle east, disaster in the Gulf Coast.

It sounds like your mom is just a victim of life. I'm sure she wasn't always this way.

Sometimes I think that the old saying "Ignorance is bliss" has gained new meaning for myself. The more I hear of the worlds issues compiled with my own battles, its gets harder to remain positive.

It's an interesting way to look at world politics. Bomb everyone else. Problem solved!

Maybe but her whole family is pretty negative (with the almost exception of my aunt) and she's been negative for awhile. Racist too. My dad used to say she was nicer before she worked for Social Security and had to deal with the homeless people.

When I was younger we used to drive around and she'd say:

"Roll your windows up! We're driving through a *insert ethnicity here* neighborhood"

She's scared they're going to shoot her. Like the window of an 84 Dodge Aries is going to stop a bullet.

I still find it all kind of funny though...
