Thanks - NFL Threads

I just want to thank all the posters to the NFL threads I do weekly. The discussion is lively, interesting and enjoyable.

This morning, I visited two different Packer forums I habitually check. You know what? I've resigned myself to not even checking those assinine sites anymore! Why? Over the past couple years, they have deteriorated into nothing but disgusting name calling, extreme player, coach and GM bashing and, in general, lewd, unintelligent, childish dribble. They are so poorly moderated by the forum sponsors that it's sickening. Is it just the Packer forums? I'm guessing not. Yet another sign of the continuing moral and civil degeneration of our society. Thank God for TB.

Yep, TB is the best place to talk NFL football. Weird, huh? I quit going to the NFL, CBS, and the Indianapolis Star forums all for the very same reasons you mentioned.

I occasionally will browse the Saints blogs, but typically don't waste much time on them. I did go stir up some trouble on one of the Panthers fan sites this week, because the idiot made this statement (a direct quote

):

"The New Orleans receivers are nothing special."

...uh...really???

However, I was very polite in pointing out how silly that statement was...

However, yes, I much prefer coming here to talk football, whether it's that we're all bassists, or just good guys, despite all of the smack talk, it's all in good fun, and always taken as such.

I've dabbled in forums about Surfing, Macs, Music, and various other stuff, and I keep coming back here. As much as I love the mods [let me just pull my nose out of their butts now] I think it's the unique blend of personalities on this board that makes TB so great. Most are generally intelligent, warped in different directions, and have a good sense of humor (with the exception of Mike_v_s).

I bet I used to go to the same sites! I agree, THIS is the place to talk football.

Gard's a harmless puppy dog. He talks a tough game though! He's pretty knowlegeable about his team, so we'll keep him around here.

I agree. i always go on foxsports (through msn) and it's just ridiculous. the writers and analysists are complete idiots, and the people in there that make postings are totally extreme about **** talking and don't know what they are talking about, and just go in their to talk smack about every team but their own. It's way better on here. maybe they are all guitarists...

I enjoy Gard's posts and actually like the Saints, but have a tough time now that they're in the same division.

Now as far as those Seahawks this week...Sunday night's game will be fun to watch.

Yeah, because the Saints have the tendency to bedevil the Yucks at every turn!

Like the year that Gruden took them to the Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's team...they lost to the Saints both games!

No sir, it's not just Packer sites. There are millions of people worldwide that are just insane for NFL football. If you're looking for real humor, check out a Cowboy blog. Amazing.

Thanks to you MPG, for starting our weekly thread. I think if you didn't do it and someone else did I wouldn't open it.....

I feel the same. I used to do all my Steeler chat on other fourms for the Steelers, but I'm so done with it after our little group has formed and grown to be pretty tight.

I love me some Steelers as you all know, but I also get sick of the screamers, the guys from other teams who show up the week we play them to scream and yell some more about how much we supposedly suck. Then we have the fans on the boards who will never, EVER, say anything bad about the Steelers. The minute someone else does, they bring into question if the poster really is a true Steeler fan and then run off a list of "I've been a fan since...." baloney to prove just how much of a fan they are.

As an example....I posted just this season that I thought Ben really had a serious shoulder problem, and the team was creatively hiding it. Oh man, I nearly got run out of town for that. Thank goodness a few of the long time posters stood up for me, or I think I would have been banned from the site. I do still go there since they post the most up to date Steeler news from anywhere else I can find.

So thanks to you all.....to my Steeler buds, and you other posers who think your team is going to stop us from getting #6 this year.

This is what you resort to when your team hasn't ever really won anything. You take great pride in beating a team who won the Super Bowl that year.

I have to confess that I'm really not a football fan, I'm actually just a New York Football Giants fan (and more and more becoming a Steeler fan as well) ..... the reason I pay attention to the entire NFL is to specifically see how the other teams relate to the success of the Giants (and again, more recently the Steelers) and what those other games/teams/players will mean as it relates to the Giants ....

I follow the Jets due to proximity and their inexplicable ability to F-up each and every season no matter how promising it might seem to be ... even with the Favre(Farve??) connection they'll self-implode this year, too.

Other than the Giants, and now the Steelers, I dislike every single football team in the NFL .... I don't like the other coaches, players, fans, stadiums, logo's, cheerleaders, play-calling, or anything else about them

But I try to be respectful all the same (well, except for Favre(Farve??) ... I'm sick of hearing about him, retire already for the love of God).

Who would have thought that TB would be a good place for NFL stuff? I appreciate a lot of the knowledge here, and I also appreciate a lot of the mis-placed "homer-ism" exhibited in the threads .... and specifically, if you're a Lions fan, then God bless you ....

Well, as some of you know, I'm another Stiller fan checkin' in here, but more importantly, I'm finding out that TalkBass is the online place where I most enjoy discussing.......just about anything! Sports, pets, computers, cars, eBay, food...............and even.....(gasp!)..............Basses!
