Theordore Rides Again!! Jeep Content

My Daughter gave my Wagoneer the nickname. She gives everything and everyone a nickname and it usually sticks

I reached the point of having to work on the Jeep or start walking. It's not as simple is bringing to the shop and picking it up when it's done. Finding many of the common parts only takes a day or so, other parts...........weeks

The past two weeks have been fun. New brakes, including rotors, calipers, drums, lines even the master cylinder.......EVERYTHANG was JUNK

Once I got to tearing that all apart I realized it needed new front axle seals as well. So EVERYTHANG came apart, got rebuilt, replaced and re-greased. I don't think the previous owner over put it in 4WD so the hubs are like new The rear end needed shimming so EVERYTHANG got done at that end too. I was hoping to install a 4 inch lift kit at the same time but the one and only source for them has it backordered for another month.

Working in my friends shop was nice but, I got stuck with the outside bay. Beggars can't be choosers and the lift worked and so did all his air tools

Next came the carb, ECU and vacuum line uncluster****ification This model has one of Jeeps famous early 80's Computer/Vacuum/Carburator control devices...........NOT ANYMORE. I installed a kit that now utilizes a simple electric choke and vacuum advance. No more computer. After much hassle and calling in two Jeep experts, it's now running like a Swiss watch and getting great mileage also I also installed new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belts and filters. I never liked the idea of DOUCHING out a motor with mineral spirits but we did......3 times. It's a Florida redneck mechanic tradition. You cannot IMAGINE the crap that came out of the motor. I ran it for about 20 minutes with cheap oil, drained that and put in good Quaker State and another new filter. It's funny but the motor doesn't have a nasty smell to it anymore when it idles I'll do it again at 500K miles!!

I was hoping to install my power rear window, suspension and factory AC. I ran out of time. Those projects will have to wait until fall Theodore is back online, that's all that matters right now

We had to take him out in the phosphate pits to make sure he still worked in 4WD Just some light offroading. With no rain lately the sand is DEEEEEP in many spots, it woudn't have been hard to get stuck in it, several people we saw were digging and winching!!!

Nice! Looks super clean. One of my biggest regrets is letting my family's 50's Jeep pickup slip away... Grandpa's first, then Dad's, then I drove it for awhile. It was still in decent shape when we sold it, and would have been a great restoration. That thing was unstoppable.

I kick myself for selling my Dads Chevy pickup. It was really nice

I've had some nice older Jeeps but this one is super clean and totally rust free. The previous owner kept it garaged all it's life. He also kept all the service reciepts and even notebooks with gas/mileage. I'm going to keep it pretty much stock except for the mild lift, tires and AC. Maybe a few goodies to make it more trail ready. The 25+ year old springs are worn out and saggy. New, modern springs and shocks will make it ride SOOOO much better. I only put about 2K per year on it so it should last a while I'd much rather put money into it than buy a new vehicle. There's just something about an old Jeep.

Not to mention not having payments.

I'm not sure how you drive, but I would hate to daily commute in the Jeep It's great offroad and for short trips and Jeep get togethers..........That's about it A trip to the airport 50 miles each way on the highway is a bit much.

Man...

I've owned 4 Jeeps in my day- no pictures with me at the moment, but my favorites were my 78 Cherokee Chief (mine was black)
and my '80 Scrambler that looked pretty much identical to this one when i was done with it:

I wish I still had 'em both. Hang onto that Wagoneer!

I never saw that Cherokee pic before!! It's my background now!! Thanks

I keep looking at Jeeps whenver I get the chance. If I see clean CJ5, I would probably jump on it. I'd like something for more hardcore trails and I don't want to cut up the Waggy

What year is your Wagoneer? I'm guessing '78 based on the grill. I love it... if you ever go totally insane and decide you want to sell it please PM me.

Jeeps are cool. That one, especially.

I'm in love with my toyota pickup, though.

I was out at pismo dunes last weekend... there were two jeeps that were DECKED OUT. Atleast 15 g's dumped into them... ARB, long travel, the works.

My truck.... stock.

They were trying to get up this dune, maybe 15 feet high. The first jeep did it in 3 tries.

The second one tried atleast 5 times... i got sick of watching him, so i dropped it into 4 lo and romped right up in first try.

Then we got to a huge dune, and they both kicked my ass.

My best friend had a Cherokee Chief in high school. That thing was a beast. Loved it. We drove it down to Mexico for surf trips, snowboarding, camping, you name it. That thing is probably still running somewhere.

It's an '82. I added the "razor grill", round lights, etc. from an early '70's Wagoneer.
