Is there any special way to pack a laptop for shipping?

Like, getting a static wrap or something similar? Where could I acquire something of that nature?

I recommend using a minimum of two inflatable pool toys.

Good idea. I might even use 3.

Get some hard foam to make sure it doesn't bump around inside whatever box you are sending it in... and packing peanuts. Those are fun/annoying.

And of course, bubble wrap.

You might be better off just taking it to a place like a UPS Store so they can properly pack it. It shouldn't cost that much money. If you want to just go to a UPS Store for packing materials though, they supply those for you to buy as well and can probably recommend you something.

I'm pretty confident in my packing skills, it's just that I thought I'd need to shield the laptop/HDD, so to speak. I assumed that's why products like those generally have some sort of sheet around them out of the box.

Well during shipping, I would separate anything that is removable from the laptop itself, so that includes the battery, and in some cases, the HDD if it is easily removable.

All in all you shouldn't worry much though, I would just pack it all as securely as possible and not worry about any anti-static wrap or stuff like that.

That is more designed for when shipping individual components, such as if you were shipping a processor or a mobo.

Yeah, no need to put the entire computer in a Faraday cage like you do with the components. Otherwise you'd hear about people shorting out their computers constantly by just touching them. I'd just use lots of bubble wrap and keep everything nice and cushy just like shipping any other fragile item.

I still have the original box, so I'm going to put it in that. The another box with proper packaging, because there are some extras with it. Thanks a lot for the replies everyone.
