I'm thinking about buying an inexpensive one just to play on the side, write songs on, take to parties, friends, whatever.

I also love to rock out the david allan coe tunes and hank sr.

They own Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Norman, Art & Lutherie and LaPatrie.
I own a Seagul Mini Jumbo, Art & Lutherie Cedar 12 string and a LaPatrie Concert Classical. All of mine were $400-500 each with hardshell cases after tax. They are all handmade in Quebec Canada with a real hardwood top and quality laminated back and sides. These things easily out play and sound Taylors and Martins 3 times the price.
Check out Lasido.com for the links to all the companies. Most are available with either Cedar or Spruce tops.
I also own a pre-fender Gretsch Historic series acoustic that I love. I lucked out at a sam ash and got it used for $300 out the door with a top quality hardshell case. Guitar was mint.
Id say but any of those that I mentioned and then pick up either D'addario EXP strings or the D'addario flat tops. Alot of people dont like coated strings but those EXP's dont rob your tone at all. From what im told.... Elixir makes a string and then dips it which results in the coating forming a sort of web from winding to winding. D'addario uses a techniue where they dip and coat the actual wire first. then they wind a string out of it. This results in a perfect balance of a longer lasting string and no tone loss. Yes elixir will last longer but theyll sound like garbage from day one.

| | | | I play acoustic guitar on the side. I just have a $100 starter pack guitar that a friend got me as a gift, but it plays amazingly well, and sounds good too. On Bass, im more of a Progressive metal/ Solo work kind of guy, and on acoutstic guitar I play a lot of Folk. Neil Young, CSN, etc. As well as write some of my own folk-inspired material. |

I've got an Ibanez Artwood from a few years back that acts as a pantydropper.
I've got an Epiphone that I inherited when a family friend passed. This one's had it's neck broken and is only strung with Nashville tuning.
And I've got a custom built acoustic baritone that comes out from time to time.
I just need a twelve and I'm set.

| Can you give some more details about the baritone? I have never encountered a baritone acoustic before.
I own a Taylor Big Baby and I love it. I have had the guitar for over seven years and it has never let me down. Comfortable, well made, and sounds great. Under $500. |

Be careful about buying the really cheap acoustic guitars, in time they usually get so out of wack you can't play them and they aren't worth fixing. |

+1, look for older made in japan yamahas, which are great values and excellent players. I have an old yamaha acoustic FG-150 i think and i absolutly love it. Ive never heard of the acoustic guitar being called a "panty dropper" but its flippin hallarious because it has worked too many times. |

I have since switched to electric to learn. It's much easier to learn on since the acoustics are uncomfortable to me (tiny necks, tight string spacing, narrow frets, and large bodies that I can't seem to fit my arm around comfortably).

Guilty as charged.
I actually play more with acoustic than with a bass or electric guitar.
