Is there one food that you just can't eat?

Note that I didn't say "that you're allergic to" or "aren't fond of" - I'm talking about a dislike that goes beyond simple distaste and gets into "revulsion" territory.

For example, mine is mushrooms. I can't eat them. I'm not allergic, I just can't eat them. Everything about them, the smell, the texture, the taste - literally makes me want to vomit. The last time I tried a stuffed mushroom a few years ago, I started gagging and couldn't eat it. If anything has mushrooms as an ingredient, I can tell immediately. Picking them out (or off of a pizza) doesn't work either; I can still taste them. I'll try anything once, and if someone puts something in front of me that I'm not fond of (like shrimp), I'll still eat it. But give me mushrooms in any capacity and I will politely decline.

I'm not sure why. Maybe I got hit on the head by a can of mushrooms as an infant.

Does anyone else have a food phobia like that?

I ******* LOVE mushrooms.

When I visit my parents, I search their property for Giant Puffballs and Slippery Jacks. Giant puffball is a gastronomic wonder.

I did and it was oatmeal. Cookies made from it were fine but the squishy, gluey pile of mush served as breakfast was revolting. Tried it once as a kid & it was a struggle to keep it down. I got over it about 2 years ago after over 3 decades of actively avoiding it. Not bad if it has a flavorz.

You can eat puff balls?? There were some soccer ball sized ones in the woods by my house.

I have a strong aversion to Sea Urchin. I think it's called Uni? I have never pleasured another man but I imagine the taste and texture have to be very similar.

Probably be willing to at least try anything else.

Crickets...

the "guts" have a pretty nasty taste, but what gets me is the texture of the rest of their bodies...
its kind of like when you eat popcorn and you eat the shell part from the kernal.
it gets stuck in your teeth and everything.

but as far as "regular food" goes,
pickled eggs!!!

Yes! They're delicious. A fresh puff ball is snow-white right through - if it's darker in the centre it's overripe. You can cook with them, but I just slice 'em and pan-fry 'em with some butter, salt and pepper. Soooo good.

I've either been missing out on an epicurean delight, or you're trying to kill me! It's too late in the season now, but I'll do a bit of research, and see about this subject next year. There were a whole bunch of them, do they ship well?? I could hook you up next year.

Liver. Not things made with liver, but chunks of liver fried up. Ugh.

Pickled eggs = food of the Gods. I have 4 dozen pickling in the fridge right now, about a two month supply.

Other than that, I'll eat pretty much anything... or try it once.
