Hmmm...what else do you have running on your computer? Any personal firewalls, etc?
I'd bet that there's something else in the mix that's to blame.
I can use all of the browsers that you listed, and while some are better than others of course, none of them keep crashing.

I use Safari and Firefox on the Mac, Mobile Safari constantly on my iPhone and am having mostly positive experiences. On XP I mostly use Firefox and can't really speak from experience about the Win version of Safari. Are you using the latest version of FF3? FF2 isn't supported anymore.

Im positively surprised Chrome crashed on you.

But then again, its a "beta".

I've been using it almost since it came out. Its very nice, much nicer than IE, a little bit nicer than FF.

As a web developer I'm happy if you are not using Ie6.

All the other browsers...FF, opera, safari...even to a lesser extent Ie7 tend to render pretty consistently.

If I had to choose just one browser it would be FF hands down, its customizable and they stay ahead of the curve in terms of security and standards compliance.

I'm actually ticked google came out with chrome, I want to see a world with 1 standards compliant browser, and as FF begins to take a chunk out of IE, Google is trying to take a slice and screwing it all up.

Firstly, go get SP3.

Secondly, there is no reason all these browsers should be crashing. Have you ever considered it to be a problem with the computer? Heh

I highly recommend firefox or opera, if they are crashing for you then that is not good because they are generally very stable browsers.

i am running Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.5, yes it is no doubt better than all others i have yet checked out but still it does get a little ****ed up some times. i was just wondering, is it really SO hard to come up with a browser which is just fine??

See here is the problem...

As a web developer I want 3 things:

1) For everyone to be able to see my site
2) For my code to be quick, clean and efficient
3) To be able to use the latest technology to enhance my site

1 and 2 are mutually exclusive thanks to IE6 and 3 is a pipe dream.

Since 1 is more important than 2 I have to sacrifice simplicity in my code and start hacking things and over complicating stuff to make my site render properly...since I'm dealing with 5 different browsers, one is bound to misinterpret what I'm trying to do and then render my web site like a pile of poo.

You have organizations like WC3 trying to fix this problem and companies like Microsoft who couldn't care less.

and I'm just talking HTML/CSS here...start throwing in Java support and flash and server side scripts and all that jazz and your opening up another can of worms.

Tried the Beta when it came out, stopped because of the crashes. It was just that common.

Safari on Windows is crap in my opinion. I like to use Firefox with a few plug-ins.

Now I'm on Mac and I'm using Camino. Although, I'm thinking of changing back to Firefox...
