Is there such a thing as "Vintage scale models?" if so I bought some.
 

Well I love building scale model planes and am always searching for something cool.

Today I got lucky.


I was in Antwerp and I went by a shop of which I have been a regular customer for a few years now and I spotted some very old looking boxes.

When I inquired about them, the shopkeeper told me that they came from the collection of a guy who very recently passed away and his widow decided to sell them.

I bought three: an early seventies Revell Grumman Wildcat, a late seventies Revell Hawker Typhoon (Still in shrink wrap, amazing) both in scale 1;32 and a mid eighties Matchbox Heinkel He-70 in scale 1:72.

I don't know if there's such a thing as "Vintage" model planes but I got some and already started work on the oldest.

Great find ! I have a friend who is constantly scouring second hand stores for these old models.

Our guitar player builds models of all types (planes, helicopters, cars, ships, etc.) and sells them. He also does custom model work if somebody wants specific designs.

Yes, there are vintage models- planes, tanks, ships, sci-fi etc. I have over 3 dozen unbuilt or in progress, maybe 1/4 pre-1980. Couple few pre-1970. A not-too expensive hobby

Let's see I paid 15 Euro for the Wildcat and the same for the Typhoon while the Heinkel was 7.50 Euro, so in total I spend 37.50 Euro on all three.

Which still is a bargain no matter how you slice it.

Yeah, it's like any other hobby- *serious* enthusiasts have driven the prices up on some specific items(google Aurora AH-56 Cheyenne)but many are well within reach. I find it amusing to re-live a small part of my childhood.

I've never had the patience for these but maybe will try again one day.

I found a vintage Russian model plane when we were clearing out my grandparents' house a while back. I have no idea what type of plane or anything, because everything is in Russian. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow.

I built the Grumman Wildcat model back the late 60s. Loved Revell kits.

Very highly recommended. Actually the reason I've actually looked at these model kits again.
