My 1st stop is Mexico city airport. | If you make it to Guadalajara, which isn't too for from Mexico City, take the Tequila Train! Amazing trip that takes a train from there to tequila country and to the Herradurra distillery. All the top shelf tequila you can drink, great tours of the old and new distillery, incredible food, and scenic train ride for CHEAP! A very class act trip, not some sketchy outfit.

Once at the distillery you stop for lunch at a big food court and the Mariachi band and dancers come out and entertain the whole time. $70 US for the whole deal.

Bandits abound on the back roads and will pounce on rental cars. If you do get stopped, gladly pay them some cash and be thankful as you get on your way.

I wouldn't go! | I know about that, but the regions at risk are along the US Mexico border, I'm not going into that region of the country. |

I been to Nuevo Larado, border town and we stopped more South of Mexico while on a cruise.
Shopping is wild there, you walk down street and ppl be trying to get you to buy this and that. You can get really good deals too and most towns take USDs.

Seriously, the Mexico/Texas border is more dangerous than Afganistan right now. Stay in the interior of the country and keep your head on a swivel. I don't think I could enjoy myself in Mexico right now. My sense of adventure doesn't extend to risking my life.
That's sad for me to admit..... I love Mexico. I've had so many good times and met so many cool people. But I am out 'til they get their s!!! together.

My girlfriend wants us to go to Mexico, and I told her that I would only under the condition that there are ruins close by. |
