Hi Guys,
Of course I mean 12/11/09-12/18/09 - gets written differently on this side of the pond!
I'm getting married on 10th December and we're going to New York City for a week the day after. Anyone have any suggestions for good live music for the week 11th -18th December? Also any good places to visit to get some GAS built up? Never been to New York (we're from Northern Ireland) so any suggestions welcome! Food/Music/Bass shops - hit me.
(Sadowsky shop visit's a given BTW!)
Cheers

Check out Tourfilter to see if there's any bands you like playing in the city at the time Highline Ballroom and Town Hall both have really good sound.
For GAS, check out Rudys on 48th between 6th and 7th, Ludlow Guitars, on Ludlow just south of Houston, Guitar and Bass Boutique on 9th between 50th and 51st, and Guitar Center on 14th between 5th and 6th.
For food, have lunch at Little Owl on the corner of Bedford and Grove in the village, and get the Bacon Cheeseburger. Yeah, it costs $16, but it's also the best burger ever made. Get a sandwich from Katz's Deli at the corner of Houston and Ludlow. Get a Gyro from the late night vendor at 53rd and 6th.

Congrats on the wedding.

Go to Rockefeller Center at 7 AM & be seen on TV (the Today Show broadcasts live, Make a sign that says just married in Ireland for the camera you could get an interview) Look at the windows at Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales ... See the Xmas show at Radio City Music Hall. Cruise through Sam Ash (without your credit card) Taste some New York style Clam Chowder (aka Bouillabaiss) Have lunch at Katz's Deli (corned beef or pastrami on sissel rye + potato knishes highly recommended). Go into the Public Library on 42nd St & 6th Av & browse the crowd. Go to the Guggenheim Museum, when the sky is clear go to the top of the Empire State Building, see who is playing jazz at Birdland, visit the sites depicting the role Irishmen & Women played in NY history. ... you will need to make a list using; http://www.nyctourist.com/
OH Yeah - Congratulations & best wishes for a long, happy life together.

Guitarman, Rivington Street Guitars and Ludlow Guitars are within walking distance of each other. Ludlow has a cool selection of effects. Guitarman is a Schroeder dealer,
a short walk to Katz's Deli. Also on Ludlow Street is a place that reportedly sells a "proper" pint of Guiness: Local 138 (212) 477-0280 138 Ludlow St NY 10002 Congratulations to you both and let us know how you enjoyed NY.

| | THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER! | | Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: USA; Mitchellville, Maryland | | For a minute there I was shocked that nobody had mentioned the Sadowsky shop but I was relieved when I saw the OP mention it himself, lol. It's definitely a GAS building place! Just walking into the show room makes you feel like taking something home! The Sadowsky staff is all really cool to they'll make you feel right at home... or worse, make you want to make the shop your home !
Another place that definitely seems like it's worth checking out is the recently opened Warwick Showroom:
Warwick / Framus Custom Shop Showroom:
76-80 East, 7th Street
New York, NY 10003
Phone 212.777.6990
The place's main purpose is to induce GAS so cripplingly powerful that you'd be willing to buy one on the spot there and from the looks of it, that may be entirely possible. OK, so maybe not exactly in those word but why else would they be selling their basses at MSRP, lol? And if you haven't heard, all Warwick basses made in 09 and on come stock with the Warwick Slim neck which is much less tree trunk and more like a Jazz bass from what I hear. So no need to hold back any longer if you ever did!

Expensive, but well worth it for me. You won't get a steak like that back home in Co. Antrim - or anywhere else in Europe, ime.

No food, no drinks, no reservations, $10/person admission. It's not like music you have heard before was Herbert's summary. If you're feeling adventurous ...

I'd love to visit the Fodera shop! Time's getting tight in the schedule... Now what could I bump off my list of things to do... I'm sure her-indoors wouldn't mind going to that broadway show alone... |

Look I obviously love the place, but it's not where I'd spend my honeymoon! Quote:
