so ive never seen a ghost, dont think ive seen a UFO, no weird encounters or anything like that. my only strange experiences were when i was 10 my sister was born and remember a few weird things happening in the first year or so, never to return. things like the house smelling of oranges, hearing her name through the baby monitor and her talking to angels are the ones that stick out in my memory.
our first child, Jack, was born this past april and am wondering what is going on. i know animals and children are more sensitive to "paranormal"-ness, and have had family members having strange experiences, many i have never met.
again, i believe in ghosts, paranormal, whatever, but have never really had first hand experiences where ive been "convinced" of something...
recently we moved into a nice rental house back in august. everything has been fairly normal until the last month or so. it started with us hearing strange noises. things like creaking, clicking, humming, and what not. all can be attributed to temperature changes, house settling, etc., but only recently. the baby monitor now beeps and crackles and makes strange noises, could be interference. but then a few weeks ago, while the wife was shopping, my son and i were in the family room watching tv when i kept seeing shadows in my periferal, okay whatever. i said nothing to the wife as it was not a big deal. well a few days later she tells me that she has seen moving shadows and noticed an increase in weird noises. she did not tell me this until i told her about my next shadow sighting. i was in the shower, with the shower curtain closed. the bathroom door was closed and the room was lit by the lights above the mirror. there is no light in the shower. just happening to be looking at where the shower curtain meets the wall (from inside the shower), i see a shadow on the curtain, floor, and wall moving as if someone was leaving the bathroom. i immediately poked my head out thinking it was the wife. nope. nothing, nobody, door still closed. i tried making a similar shadow, but could not unless i walked from the light source to the door. whatever.
well after working 3rd shift the other week, i had gone to bed around 8 am. dead asleep, the bedroom door slams shut, with much force around 11 am. the wife and baby were in the living room, house closed up, no fans, opened windows or doors or anything like that. so she comes in, on the phone apperently, and asks me if i had slammed to door, i said no and told her i though she had done it. okay.
the next week, which was last week, i had left for band practice. well a couple minutes later, she in the back room, heard footsteps going to the kitchen, and rustling through papers or moving things or something. enough so that she thought i had come back in forgetting something. she went out to check only to find nothing.
now last night, my wife not feeling well and being a light sleeper decided to go out on the couch at some point to lay down. she woke when she heard a clicking noise in the kitchen, but didnt think anything of it. well a minute later she heard it again. at that point, she was definitely awake, but did not get up. after another minute or so she had heard the refridgerator door open then solidly close. enough that she thoughi had gotten up and snuck past her without her knowing. she then got up to check only to find nothing, then came back to bed scared.
well all in all it has been interesting to say the least, nothing sending us packing, but quite weird anyway. we just received our lastest electricity bill by the way. last month's bill was around $150. kinda high, but about normal. this months bill: $230! no A/C, no heat, nothing abnormal (that we know of), water heater normal, normal usage washing clothes and dishes, etc...
what is going on?
sorry for such a long post, but i feel a need to have some sort of written timeline and thought id share with anybody who would be interested.

The other stuff...well...I think you've got a ghost. But I wouldn't worry too much about it if it's not malignent. If it gets that way, that's when you call your local Exorcist or something.
As to electricity bills, wall warts, power supplies, surge protecotors etc. still suck power even when plugged in. Unplug 'em if youre not using 'em.

Are you near power lines? a cell tower?
In 7 out of 10 cases most of this type of activity is attributed to a very High EMF discharge some place in the house...
the clicking and humming you mentioned are a common side effect to High EMF exposure which can cause various side effects including auditory and visual hallucinations...you mentioned the wife didn't feel well any of the symptoms? EMF's can create undesirable side effects. Some of these can include, but are not limited to; nausea, headaches, spider-like sensations, paranoia, dizziness, and even cancerous related illnesses
any problems with other electrical things besides the baby monitor?
Find someone with, or get your hands on an EMF Meter...super high exposure can cause cancer and other health problems

all occurences are random and intermittent.
electricity wise, we have a pole in the back yard that runs behind us and to the house. we are not super conservative, but our electric bills are always higher than average, even at our old house that we lived in for two years. but not at our apartment right before then. anyway, because of this, i keep lights/fans/etc. off if we dont need or use them. ive also made sure the dishwasher doesnt get used unless its a full load and am conscience on the washer and dryer usage. i have the water heater set to about 120-125 degrees F for efficiency. we do not use A/C or heat in the winter, being that it is SW florida. our consumption is typically always the same, except in summer when the A/C is on.
nothing has changed in the last few months, except christmas lights, and no we do not do it griswold style.
the house was built in 1987 or 1989. the original owners sold it in 1996, then payed the mortgage off within a half dozen years or so. they recently put the house up for sale last spring, but given the market, decided to rent to at least get some income from it. as far as i know, we are the third family to live here. we have not been told of any strange occurences that have happened in the past.
im going to assume EMF stands for electro-magnetic field or something of that nature. what would cause a "very high EMF discharge"? again, this is all intermittent, nothing seems constant. i was thinking about the ghost tracker shows where they use a meter to sense electric areas or something, is this the EMF meter i am now so interested in? the only other electrical oddity in the house is the dvd player/surround sound. it will turn on and off sometimes and occasionally even increase volume on its own. the bedroom dish remote (we have 4) also seems to eat batteries like crazy.
health wise, i have always been very healthy and feel the same as usual. my wife frequently has a headache (i kid, i kid)... seriously though, she does have IBS and has sleep issues, so she spends a couple hours on the couch sometimes in the middle of the night.
strangely enough, our little dog Marty is as normal as could be (for him). once a month or two ago unlike ever before, he started barking like crazy in the middle of the night, but hes crazy anyway.
heres hoping i dont physically see something for i will crap my pants and scream like the real sissy i am. |

A friend of mine said that he used to hear footsteps going up and down the stairs and nobody there. Doors opening and closing on their own was another thing he mentioned. This was when he was a kid and he wasn't afraid, and apparently whatever it was never went beyond noises.

That will give you a good idea how to Ghosthunt your house. Just to see whatcha got going on, or not going on. A lot of your stuff can be explained, but some of it is weird. One thing, I've noticed from watching Ghosthunters is that sometimes houses have a really high EMF area that creates what they call a fear cage. Weird uneasy feelings, like somebody is there, hair standing up, etc. This stuff is pretty common. Use an EMF gage and go around your house. Because you mention the high electricity bill, I bet you've got something weird going on with your electricity. |

Sounds like symptoms of a ozone poisoning. The large electric bill supports that.
Does the electrical system use large contact breakers (actuators) or motors with brushes of any kind? Chances are that some of them are arcing and so breaking air into ozone.
As I don't know the usual layout of the electrical systems over there, there might be other components used that can produce ozone too.
To double Your electrical bill, there has to be quite a draw somewhere, a malfunctioning freezer or a fridge comes to mind first. Is the duty cycle of those appliances abnormally high? More than 20% or so?

Plus with the With the fact that your electrical bill is so high, I'd bet my last dollar on it. Call an electrician out and have someone check things over. It's really a safety issue when you think about it. Look at it this way - if he finds something and fixes it, no more ghosties and everyone's healthy. If he finds nothing at all, then it's further proof that you might have a legitimate haunting which would be cool. Win/win
