For example, for my daughter's 7th birthday, I bought her a Barnes&Noble Nook and a bunch of e-books. I got some looks from other parents that suggested they disapproved of such an "expensive" gift for such a young kid. But she loves it and reads from it every day. I bought her the nook because she loves gadgets, and she loves books. And for her 8th birthday, she has asked for a telescope or a video camera. To get this, she has to get good grades in school (good by my standards, which is basically straight A, since she is a GT kid) and also get good marks for in-school behavior. We have a pretty elaborate system worked out wherein she earns points for good behavior and loses them for errant behavior, and if she gets enough points, she can choose between the scope or the camera.
Anyway, I can see how other parents might see my buying this stuff for the kid and think I am spoiling her or trying to buy her love with expensive stuff. The truth is, she earns it and she loves the things she has.
On the other hand, a friend of mine got a Ferrari from his grandparents for a high school graduation present. He already had a Mercedes. Lame.

Lame. | its an individual attitude thing when you have seen the $3000 guitar with bumper stickers and duct tape and the kid flat out say it doesn't matter dad will get me a new one. or the 16 year old that complains because the car is the wrong color. to me those kids don't deserve it. | | | | When I see the president's accoutrement and entourage and the massive expense involved in moving him, his people, and his stuff around the world (or even just the country), it strikes me as a huge waste. When politicians throw big parties for themselves and their corporate buddies, while the rest of the country is suffering from the massive fraud, waste, and abuse that comprises our government's fiscal outlook, it strikes me as a huge waste.

Users of drugs. There's so much potential there in the person, but it's wasted on drugs.
The vehicle tweak that causes that disgusting black cloud of smoke to burst out of the exhaust pipe during acceleration.
....stickers on stringed instruments.
Buying a Squier Affinity just to put high quality hardware on it.
When people have carwashes attached o their house. Pretty much anything excessive. Then again, not everyone is like me.
When I find out that the higher-ups at work will spend 700$+ on an evening when higher-ups from their sister plant in Oklahoma visit. So...I'd get an earful if I were to screw up on machining something in my machine...yet they spend hundreds of dollars on wine and an expensive dinner.
There's probably more....

anyone who throws away good food at a restaurant. i cant remember the amount of times ive watched one of my friends try to let the wait-person take their plate with a pile of fries on it. i always look like a glutton and a dork, but i say no and take the food. i refuse to let anything i'd eat go to waste.
