I'm going to be going to Bangkok in about a week to perform at the World Saxophone Congress. Any tips on things I should check out while I'm there?

Otherwise, eat, eat, eat, and rent a moped. |

Hopefully you'll get more useful advice than when I posted a thread asking what to do on my trip to Canada for the National Grammar Rodeo.

Go for one of the tranny/tiger(not the animal) show.
Eat a lot. Shopping's pretty cheap if you can speak some Thai.

Also, if you're into Thai seafood, you may want to have dinner at the Yok Yor Restaurant, south of the Palace, close to the Millennium Hilton hotel. Easy to get there via boat on the river.
If you're interested in tropical snakes, the Snake Farm would be a place to see. And if you got time on the weekend, the Chatuchak (Weekend) Market is definitely fun!

Off the beaten trail, I would suggest a Klong tour. You rent a boat (with driver) and drive through the canals of Bangkok. It's gorgeous. I would recommend Cheap Charlies at Soi 11/Sukhumvit Rd. Great outdoor bar that is a lot of fun. Some ex-pats there. They're great to talk to for a feel of what to do. The bar Saxophone has decent food and great music. It's a great Bangkok experience. Get some clothes made at Harry's Boutique, Soi 17/Sukhumvit. (If you're seriously going, email me. He knows me, and I'd love for you to say hi). Visit Suan Lum, the Night bazzar, if it's still open. They have a great beer garden. You can get a 3L keg of Heiniken delivered to your table. Skip Jim Thompson's house. Boring. I think the over 60 crowd enjoys it though. Visit Lumphini park and take a boat around the lake. There's so much more even. I adore that city. It's gorgeous and the people are wonderful. Some of the nicest people in the world. |
