To keep in mind that everything you think you know; it might just be wrong.

It's taken my whole life to learn that I have much left to learn.

tools are a good example of this.

Buy cheap, buy twice! I live my life by that saying.

The thing that took me a long time to accept is that nothing is perfect or will stay that way for long if you use it...
I am pretty OCD and used to go mental if i scratched a bass, or bought something that wasn't perfect in every way.
It took me 29 years, but i can now deal with things showing they have lived.

It's better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

1. People in general take relationships (romantic or otherwise) for granted and are seldom likely to work as hard as you to make them work.

2. The best bang-for-the-buck product is the best way to go in most cases, as opposed to the "best."

3. Don't let people push you into doing/saying things you don't want to.

4. Drama is 99% self-created either directly or indirectly by association. Keep a drama-free circle of friends and family and your life will magically be devoid of drama.

5. Stand up for yourself and be your own man.

6. "No" is a very powerful word that I've been using in recent years a lot more often.

7. Being "cool" isn't important in the slightest and I've lost a lot of time and sleep on trying to be accepted.

8. People never want your real opinion or advice. They just want to hear back what they already think so just nod and smile regardless and let the chips fall where they may.

9. (tied to #1) When somebody does take you for granted or is solely a source of negativity and contributes nothing to your life, cut them out of your life and find another person within the remaining 6 billion who will treat you right.

Do you want the real answer or the polite answer?

Yes!!! And related to that, if a female posts in her "About" section on Facebook or any other similar profile about how she "hates drama" or something similar, you can be assured that her life is probably full of it.

Also, kind of related to this thread and I just posted something on my FB about it... Acquiring knowledge is a very good thing, but acquiring knowledge without acquiring an equal amount of wisdom is pointless.

99% of the time a person says they "hate drama" it is likely they are the first ones to start it.
Same goes for 99% of the time someone says "Oh no they di'int" it is likely the person being referred to did.

Not sure I get the gist of this thread: "Things That Took Your Whole Life To Finally Learn" implies that up until very recently you hadn't yet learned them, that you only just now finally learned them. A lot of the answers I'm reading here look like people are talking about "Things That Have Continually Proven Themselves To Be True For My Entire Life" ...i.e., that they learned long ago, and just happen to keep receiving affirmation over the years that they learned correctly.

But actually, in the "Things That Took Your Whole Life To Finally Learn" I'd have to put

- the difference between "i.e.," and "e.g.,"

I just learned that in the past week or two, and I'm 52 years old. Apparently "e.g.," (being shorthand for "examples") implies that there are more than one example, and therefore mandates that you provide more than one example. Conversely, "i.e.," is some kind of arcaane shorthand for "in other words" and therefore indicates that you are going to provide one alternate explanation/elucidation. If there are more than one possible explanations, you don't use "i.e.,"

I learned that I'd rather look back on my life from my death bed and regret the things I DID do rather than the things I never tried.
