The last surviving Andrews sister, Patty (center), passed on yesterday. Best harmony in the universe! RIP, Patty.

When I was growing up, every year my dad had to take each of our vehicles in for an annual "safety inspection". It was the law in our state. You had to go to a state-certified mechanic and he'd check your tires, brakes, exhaust system, lights, etc. I don't remember how much it cost but if your car passed, you'd get a sticker you had to display in your windshield. This had to be done every year, just like with license tags, and you could get fined if you got pulled over without having a sticker or the one you had was out of date.

That law went away in our state quite a few years ago and you can sure tell by some of the wrecks you see people driving around. I'm pretty sure a few other states still have this requirement but it's been years since I've seen one of those "approved" stickers on a vehicle windshield anywhere.

In Ca we're required to have our cars smog checked every 2 years prior to registration.

Hmm, apparently not all counties in Ca are required... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Smog_Check

NJ did away with the mechanical check recently but you still have to have a sticker for exhaust checked depending on the year of your car determines how oven you need to go back.

There was one of those at a park near my house, up until about 7 or 8 years ago, when all the parks changed out their old playground equipment for newer safety oriented stuff.

In Pennsylvania, we still have to get our vehicles inspected once a year along with an emission test. The emission test is dumb because it is by county and not the entire state and I live along a river where one county requires it and right across bridge they do not as if the air is any different in my yard. Well, guess which side I live on, the one that requires it. It used to be twice a year for inspections. I recently had to get rid of my van because it would not pass inspection due to rust through of the rocker panels and it was too much to fix them. Other than that, it would have passed. If you don't have an inspected vehicle, you do get fined. Also, when you get inspected, you have to provide the inspection station with proof of insurance as well.

We still have the playground merry-go-grounds here at many parks.

But they took away the 1/2 dome climbing structure years ago.. Something like this, but w/ rust:

The shoe makes it. Helps you get a "foothold" on the merry-go-round.
