Hey everyone,
As the title suggests, I'm thinking about getting my lip pierced. I've been mulling it over for the past few weeks and just wondering if anyone who has had this done could tell me a little more about their experience(s).
I've never had a piercing before so a bit nervous thinking about it but excited at the same time. Would be planning on having it on the left side of my bottom lip.
There are three local places that I've narrowed it down to that do piercings which I will scope out and try and talk to (around being at work) or email with questions and make sure I make the right decision and will, more than likely, make a visit to beforehand. There's also another girl at my work who has her lip pierced so will try and catch her at some point and ask her about it too.
Having looked on the internet aftercare is a must, as you would expect. I'm aware the person doing the piercing should give me instrustions on how to look after it but wondering if there's anything you could suggest that I'd need to get beforehand. Alcohol free mouthwash? Would go for Oral-B anti-plaque unless I find other alcohol free. Also saline soloution...can be made up myself but have heard that saline solution sold in shops, which is described as cleaning for contact lenses, would do the same job for cleaning?
If there's anything I'm missing I'd appreciate the input

EDIT Post a pic or yourself. That's the only true way to judged this matter
EDIT 2 Your face, not your nips.

EDIT 2 Your face, not your nips. | I don't think I'm at a stage to get those done yet! Don't even have my ears pierced, mainly cause I've always had my hair long so don't see my ears much and don't really care to get my ears pierced.
You have seen this pic before XD don't have anything better atm, camera battery is shot and camcorder takes bad stills like this one

If you're a high schooler looking for something unique(ish) to stand out go ahead and do it. Statement stands
If you're a post high school college student and you've got the money to blow...I envy you. Statement also stands
If you're none of the above and seeking employment... Don't. Actually, this stands too.
I live in Alaska and would highly recommend you think twice if you're thinking about a piercing if you live somewhere it goes below freezing. I had my nipples pierced. Not a great plan at -20F.

Not a great plan at -20F | I'm kinda 'none of the above' but have had my job since I left highschool. Don't think they'd be too bothered by it as other people have piercings and tattoos and my job doesn't entail having to see customers or people from outside the work.
It can go slightly below freezing where I am but nothing drastic compared to other parts of Scotland.

that said. i feel that facial piercings are a call for attention and often highlight less than desirable features of someones face.
specifically the lip is unsettling to me. but that is because i play trombone in the majority of my gigs and a lip piercing would inhibit my playing and most definitely get infected from it too.
on the other side of things i find a stud in either side of a girls nose to be cute. and i am also ok with eyebrow and other piercings.
think about the future on something like this. does your employer have any rules about piercings/tattoos and hair colour? if so do not risk it.
i had a friend lose her job because she got a small tattoo on her hand. the company said it was too visible and said you have to cover it with a bandage or resign.

If your really into it, and want to get it done, I say go for it.
And yes contact solution is basically saline solution, just make sure you don't get one with additives to help remedy dry eyes or something.

I started tapering my ears when I was 18 (I'm 31). I've had a labret a toungue and a septum peircing. Those are all gone because as I grew up I realized that at least I thought they were dumb. |

Unless you're the type who plans to eventually carry 20 pounds of piercings and no inch of skin uncovered by tattoos I wouldn't do it. Then again I'm probably old fashioned since I'm in my 40s.
