my wife had a lip piercing on and off for years; both sides multiple times. She has some tiny little..."scars" more like needle sized marks under her lip which are only noticeable if you're too close.

Don't get your lip pierced.

I'm generally all for piercings, but lip piercings just kinda annoy me. +1 for either nose piercing or maybe an eyebrow or something.

Well, that's the problem. You are up close when you're layin pipe.

personally, I think lip piercings look great, and really add to how good women look. Especially the little black hoopy ones.

I'm no expert on body mods here, but the general consensus among users here seems to be that lip piercings are harmless and easily reversible. I say go for it!

go for it. mine didnt hurt so bad. just a little pinch. and im petrified of needles. just dont look.

the healing process varies. if you take care of yourself, a couple weeks. me.. well.. a couple months. listerine works fine. several times a day. dont touch it. eat small foods, as anything that touches it will hurt like hell.

tried to eat a cheeseburger the next afternoon, as it is my comfort food. bad idea.

It does not reflect on your personality, but people DO draw conclusions about your person based on your appearance.

They rarely touch unless he does it intentionally. It makes sense.

I'm just stating a fact, fella.

People judge you based on the way you look. You may not like it, you may think it's "judgmental and inappropriate", but it's a fact of life. To the average person, a lip ring says slacker, loser, weirdo. It says you have poor decision making skills. It says you are impulsive. If you intend to try to succeed in the white collar world (or many blue collar professions, for that matter) they won't have much to do with you, based solely on your face adornment. Your advancement potential is limited. Your personality is defined by the choices you made on your face.

You don't have to like it, but it is fact. You can pretend its "everyone elses's problem," but it's not. Its yours. You can try to wait out society and hope they become more "enlightened", but I'll guess the novelty of your face jewelry will wane long before that happens.

Sure it does. It takes a certain personality to consider face jewelry a good idea.

what is this, 1940? only old people think like that anymore. the rest of the world is hip to modern fashion. the "stranger" people look for long enough, the more the bar is moved and "normal" is changed.

and again.. it comes out. its not like its super-glued on my face. you dont think im smart enough to look more professional when needed? thats ridiculous. of course.. anyone who pierces their face CLEARLY has no common sense.

go back to living under your rock, a-hole.

When I get my lip pierced, if someone is too stuck in their ways to see past a lip ring (or any other facial piercing) I'm happy not to have them in my life, they can go their way and I'll go mine. There's another girl in my work with her lip pierced (twice) and several tattoos and I happen to think they look amazing.

To the people that know me I'm still the same person before and after. I already dress at work on our dress down days in a way that they've labelled me more punk/goth but I can range from jeans and a t-shirt through to stuff you'd see people wearing more for a night out, depending on how I feel and where I'm going to. They still treat me the same because weather I'm wearing my work clothes or non work clothes I'm me, I won't suddenly have grown an extra two heads when I get my piercing.

The sooner people get past someones appearance whether it be piercings, clothes, colour, *insert applicable thing that people judge upon* the better. IMO it's the people who can't accept others for who they are that cause trouble regardless of what it is, but I'm not suddenly going to start hating on someone just because they're different in some way.

You're entitled to your opinion, it's your choice, I'm entitled to get a piercing, my choice. If you don't happen to like it, then fair enough.

The person doing the piercing will probably say you should get some sort of anti-septic that they sell at the store. It helps, so I'm not going to tell you NOT to buy that if you want to. But, mixing salt with warm water and swishing it around your mouth (aiming for the piercing) works well enough.
