Thor, the movie

Just got back from seeing the movie Thor with my wife. The 3D one started too late for us old folks, so we went old school 2D.

I have no knowledge of the comic book series and never read any books about Thor. That being said, I liked the movie. Cool effects, plenty of action, and some funny one liners here and there. I suspect the 3D version is even better especially in a theater with surround sound.

Wow, I might just have to see it now. I'm basically in the same boat as you concerning prior knowledge of Thor canon but I kept hearing that it was a mediocre movie so I've been holding off. Then again... all the movies I like have been considered mediocre so I don't know why that stopped me .

It was definitely a blockbuster, but still enjoyable. Definitely not going to win awards, but you don't expect that from a summer movie. I would watch it again.

And I don't know if there's really much to Thor as a Marvel character. I never read any of his comics, but if they can make a movie with Iron Man (who, lets be honest, is pretty one dimensional), they can make Thor work

I'm guessing you don't read comics, haha . Neither do I (with any frequency anyway) really, but I can tell you that superhero comics are TRULY the champions of convoluted story telling, lol. There's no such thing as a one sided comic book character when you've been around as long as Thor and Iron Man.

We saw the 3D IMAX and it was great! They don't make movies with special effects for 3D but it was still awesome. My hubby is really into comic books and he loved it.

Enjoyed it, and I also was once a big fan of Norse mythology. There was a few camouflaged references for those of us who know what things like Yggdrasil are.

However, it was hyped as being a story about a visitor from an advanced civilization rather than a god with mythical powers; I believe they failed in that capacity, as it still made Asgard appear as a magical city and the inhabitants as magically powered. It's a thin line to walk, to be sure, but still...

I like how Stan Lee makes cameos in his movies. The scene with the Dodge Ram was great.

The best cameo has to be in the Hulk film from about 2000. The Hulk smashes down a corridor past two security guards who dive out the way. One being Stan Lee, the other being Lou Ferrigno!

(yes, that was about the only good part of that film).

I saw it this past weekend with my son (9) and his friend, and we all thought it was great. The kids really loved it. I thought it was entertaining, which is what I want when I spend money at a movie theater, entertainment. So I was satisfied. I like you had never read any Thor comics, so I went in to the movie with no preconceived notion as to what the character Thor should be like.

I went in with low to medium expectations and came away totally pumped from it. A really fun movie. Action, humour, ya a bit of kissy kissy but whatever.

I saw it in 3D and thought it was great!
